By hearing what you say I have the feeling that you are tense when you play. I would suggest you to really concentrate on relaxing all your muscles... Have a look at some of Adrian Figallo lesson on rythm and try to get in the groove like he does... Stand up with your guitar relax and have some fun.

I remember that for quite a while I was to tense while I was playing and it made me sound robotic. After realizing that the guitar almost didn't need any efforts to strum and to press some fret I started relaxing the more that I could and my tone as really improve after this..

Hope it helps !

Can we hear how you play, can you post some audio sample of you jamming. This would help a LOT in telling you exactly what you need to work on.

You should definitely post a video if you can for us to help you better. Overall you can practice relaxing. It needs practice too, try to concentrate on loosening your muscles while practicing. Also techniques like legato and paying attention to "legato vs staccato" way of playing and connecting notes is important in order to sound "Smooth".
