These are the DiMarzio Cruisers, which is a hum-cancelling pickup. Essentially its a mini humbucker designed to sound like a single coil pickup. Its a dual blade design, so when you're in one of the in between positions, they act as a true single coil because only one of the blades on each pickup is being used. In this recording, they are very convincing, although in person they may not be, I don't know. But getting rid of that hum, especially at high gain, can be worth that extra small percentage of sound that true single coils have.

So what are your thoughts? Is it a good replacement for a true single coil? Andy Timmons uses them, so they can't be that bad

If Andy uses it, its gotta be awesome

Ive never tried any pickups like them before...But I would put my money on them being a good choice

I would hate to venture a strong opiinion without knowing what he is running the strat through. They sound great, but to my ear they are missing the sharp, clear bite that my single, single, single American Strat through a Fender Twin with Altec speakers has. But what sound are you looking for? His setup has a very smooth sound and if that is what you are after then they sound very good. At least that is my opinion. Sound is very subjective.

Yeah I agree, they are very close but there's still a bit of fat on the top end. ALthough this would only be recognised by us GMC:ers not the average listener.

I think you have a great sounding guitar! and your playing is quite good!

I think that the pick up sounds great, I like because they sound warm without losing attack. However it's true that this is not the classic Stratty sound that we are used to hear...

i use a chopper on my strat, and im pretty sure that you can make it sound exactly the same as a single coil, specially on the 2 and 4 position.

The good thing is that the sound is not limited and you can experiment on some other territories too, i highly recommend those 2 blades dimarzio's.

Of course, opinions are different, but to me it sounds quite ok. And that tells you one thing - don't listen to anyone, if you like - take !

Excellent point. I do like it, even though it doesn't have that little extra that makes the Strat sound very unique. I just wanted to see if you guys thinks its a convincing replacement for a regular single coil, because my expectations for what I want it to sound like might be clouding my judgement. You dig?
