Cool vid showing how to use two mics and simple mic placement to eliminate some inherent "fizz" caused often on high gain amps. No plugins required

Cool stuff Todd. After many experiments my favorite mic position is traight, between coil and cone with 7 to 10 cm distance. Of course only if just one mic is available

This is also a great reason (or option?) to use a Ribbon mic on a distorted guitar amp. They attenuate some of the high end and push some mids.

The only thing about a ribbon that can be problematic is that you do need a good mic pre that has a decent amount of gain/headroom.

Good point! Without breaking the bank, most decent audio interface/sound cards will already have at least one pre-amp on board that should do the trick. My presonus 16.0.2 has 13 pretty spiff mic preamps on board, while the 11 rack has just 1. The good news is, if you have a decent interface, you can probably get by on that.
However, if you've got some budget, adding a nice mic preamp is a worth investment and a great way to start filling out your home studio rack The only thing about a ribbon that can be problematic is that you do need a good mic pre that has a decent amount of gain/headroom.
