Fine pull indeed! Of course, this one almost has to be paired with it.

Nice, Still of the Night is awesome, that was a class album wasn't it? Plus all the videos have the bonus of that little vixen Tawny Kitaen wink.gif Apparently Coverdale paid Vai one million dollars to go on the tour when Vandenburg walked out.

That album is an Eighties classic to be sure smile.gif It must be said that the big Ballad from that album set the "Power Ballad" in stone as a practice for nearly every band of the era to follow. While it's true that some power ballads are heavy on cheese, the entire form is still a lot of fun. There was a time in the 90s of course, during "Grunge" when it was just verboten to look/sound/play like any of the bands from the previous decade Things have come full circle though and now there are just tons of bands doing the STEEL PANTHER thing where they embrace the look/style/cheese of era and folks love it. To wit, "THE" power ballad. "is This Love".

This kinda sums it up for me. The shred, the excess, the banality, the vanity, the goofiness ...

Dann Huff was the one that made me want a Tyler. He's been one of the biggest producers in Nashville for the last 10 years or so, and possibly to blame for country music sounding like 80s rock

I only have one of their albums, Last Of The Runaways and that opening solo has a HUGE sound. Never had them down as country though wink.gif

@Phil Don't forget Empty Rooms with the nylon string guitar solo that bursts into the electric solo. This was my introduction to Gary More

Power Ballads ensured radio play and hit singles and female fans

Heading into the 90's

Soul Asylum were on the bill for GnR Use Your Illusions tour along with The Cult, this was before Runaway Train was a massive hit

I immediately went and bought their T Shirt after watching them

It's easy to forget how good Gary Moore was, also, interesting stuff is that GnR supported the Cult when promoting Use Your Illusion.

Yeah, GnR supported the Cult, which may have been Southern Death Cult at the time, idk, later on GnR asked the Cult to support them kinda as pay back wink.gif

Here's the Lizzy Borden track I can remember.

https://youtu.be/txLVCYF38Mk

And another crazy band, these videos are like watching Steel Panther's parents.
Playing starts at 2:18, look at that wall of Marshalls, don't see much of that nowadays. I saw these live supported by Sabbat and Shy in December 1989 at the Hummingbird in Birmingham. Before they came on, you could feel the rumble of the amps in your chest huh.gif

And the studio version https://youtu.be/pxpO5vSq2Pg

No 80's and 90's Rock thread can be complete without some Dokken!

Or some Van Halen for that matter.
