Hey guys,

Doing an install on my truck and I though some of you would like to see some pics of the process. It's not complete yet, and I will keep updating. The system is probably over 1300Wrms because alpine underrates their amps by 5-10%.

It's pretty sweet that I can show people on here, and not worry about it going missing haha. I'm not even letting any of my friends know what's going in here, for fear of the "word of mouth" (I live in a small town).

Enjoy!

I started with my stock 2004 Chevy 4x4 truck....and about $3000 worth of equipment....and $250 worth of wires.
Attached Image

Next, since buying a box wasn't an option (because of my sub-woofer's shape) and the unusual floor shape, I have to fabricate a box out of fiberglass. This process sucks, and it's 1000x more frustrating that it looked on any website. Word to the wise...let someone else do it.
Attached Image

Next, I had to mount the amps on the back wall of the truck. I had to take the back seat out, but it's worth it. At least no one can steal them unless they take the whole truck. Yes, I'm paranoid. I have an Alpine MRV-T420 for highs (170Wx2 Class A/B), and an MRP-M850 (800Wx1 Class D amp) for my sub.
Attached Image

Next is the sub. It's a Kicker 12" L5 Solobaric square. [300Wrms - 4ohm]x2 DVC. I had this in my accord, and it would flex the windshield...no lie. But that's what you expect with a $500 speaker (or it was when I bought it).
Attached Image

The deck is an Alpine IPOD deck. That's right...NO CD'S!!!! only USB. It controls the IPOD completely, so all I have to do is put the IPOD in the glove box, and I'm ready to roll. Basically I have a 80 GB deck tongue.gif I dn't have a pic of it, but it is this one: Alpine iDA-X001

Finally, I also installed a switch for the 12V remote turn-on running to my sub amp. Just incase granny is riding with me, and I don't want to shake her dentures out. I can just flick the switch and it disables my sub. It's also useful for when I get pulled over for this stereo, and I can assure the officer that my amp doesn't work.....and it must have been someone else making that noise laugh.gif
Attached Image

More to come as the days go on. This sub box has me head scratching a bit...... Let me know what y'all think.

Oh, and I should add...I'm not one to pound the system through a residential area or anywhere it could bother someone. I do A LOT of highway driving, so if it's loud, no one else can hear it.

I chose such high power stuff to heighten the signal-to-noise ratio. You'll see the sound quality competitions cars have 5000W rms of power, and they will only use 1000W.

Thanks everyone....Finally got my amps wired, and it looks awesome! I got 4 gauge wire running to them. Not sure if I'll need a 12V regulating capacitor or not...they are kinda useless. In fact, I have one....and didn't notice a difference, so I'm didn't include it in this install.

I wish I could take another pic, but I can't find my camera haha

Congratulations man!

Although you wont mind if I state my own opinion about it.

I personally think that this kind of audio power in a truck is ridiculous. 1000W of audio power in a truck that is a size of a smaller room can not only be too loud, but dangerous to health and traffic safety. And listening on the highway at high volumes is something I would definitely never do even even with a regular audio system, let alone 1000W system that can produce some scary waves. Another important thing is that this system imo is not even made for in car listening but playing loud music for external crowd and showing off and this is what I generally don't like too (at least not in that manner). So - interesting but completely obsolete and dangerous if you ask me.

haha yeah man, don't worry. It's not cranked all the time. I'm 25 (not 17 haha) and always wanted an insane system (being an electronics tech) and I got the cash now to do something retarded like this. I guess I bought it for the "option" to have it loud if I want, but it doesn't get as much exercise as it would in a younger guys car.
ps - I'm too paranoid to show it off (with the volume knob) for fear that it will be missing when I leave for work LOL

EDIT: I guess you can tell by my message that it is already installed....just needs the new sub box finished. For now I am using my old sitting on the back seat. I'll get more pics once the new box is done.

Well all I can say is that the "option" to listen music dangerously loud is not worth to spend that much money imo. Maybe I'm wrong so don't kill me, but that's just me.

I think it can be quite useful if you go camping in a secluded spot of the country and you have a big music system to play. When you aren't in the car and there aren't others around it would be pretty cool.

I'm also an electronics guy lol and have to have everything louder and bigger lol. I have to have all the new gadgets also.

Cool, nice install, very clean. Most people don't know that the sound waves for bass in the say under 200hz are over 20 feet long and that is why everyone outside is so annoyed, wondering how you can stand it inside. It will also loosen every nut and bolt in your truck. Drive it after 6 months, and then listen with the stereo off and you will here all sorts of new rattles and vibrations that were not there before. I appraise cars for a living, and it is totally destructive over time. In my home theater I have a dedicated 1000 watt amplifier pushing 2-12' alluminum drivers in a solid 200lb enclosure. Let me tell you the results are terrifing. I can reproduce a movie soundtrack with bass measuring into 16hz range, well below your ability to here, at up to 110 DBs, which doesn't sound loud, but it moves so much air in the room that it presses quite hard against your soft tissues like a kick in the chest, You can feel your flesh tremble, you can see your pants leg move from such a powerful bass wave. Oh yea, and watching your windshield bow from the Sound pressure could be a catastrophy at 70 mph. But, Enjoy.

That's cool man! There's nothing like having some extra bucks around to do some of your own electronic craft work. Building stuff like that is totally fun. I would do the same thing if I could. There are a lot worse things you can blow money on. Plus I bet you are learning a hell of a lot.

The next question is, what will be or has been the first song you played on it?

Mine is a 1982 2204 with 6550's all stone stock, in perfect condition. It has unreal tone. I had stripped the head cabinetry down to wood as smooth a as a baby's behind, filled all of holes, put on new vintage marshall tolex, new old stock corners even original rivots (new). I left the original brass capped handle on top original for a vintage look. Love it. Extremely loud, I don't play out, I've thought about selling it, and stepping down to something a little more home studio friendly. Thought about a Mesa Lone Star Special with 5/15/30 watt options. Don't play any real metal, and I would appriciate the clean channel as a I have a boat load of high end pedals.

That's awesome. A good home theater is next (after a few years....and 50" plasma haha). And yeah, I know about the bolts.... my car when I was 19 was a mess after 2 years. Although I did pound that one 99% of the time.

The windshield would only flex on a warm summer day when the car was rev'd a bit and stopped....still counts tongue.gif

+1 The decision to take this stereo out of the closet and put it in the truck was fueled by long planned upcoming May long weekend. And what you got dude?

Got some more pics of the custom box I am making. Fiberglass boxes take forever unless your fully dedicated to them for a couple days.

This is only layer 2. I will probably do 4 layers, and call it good. If I can stand on it, that should be fine.
