I don't know how they do it exactly but for a solo just stomp on your EQ pedal which is set to raise mid frequencies so it will cut through + boost it so you will be heard.
Hence when getting a EQ pedal for soloing make sure it has a boost. There are other ways but I find that using an EQ is the best way. -------------------- My bands homepage

You can put the EQ pedal (like Boss) into the FX Loop and it can be a hell of a boost pedal. Try it

Silly question maybe but will the boost on the metal muff also boost any signal passing through, also when the distortion is off?

A distortion pedal for boosting could color your sound a bit, so if you want a "clean boost", I would go with the EQ

If the EQ pedal is before it I'm pretty sure it would. I meant the Metal Muff's own boost alone. That pedal has a distortion + a boost button. Hence, will the boost function as a boost even with no distortion active or does dist = off mean that the entire pedal is bypassed? -------------------- My bands homepage

Another alternative is T-Rex's Möller distortion pedal, which got a separate button for boost (0 to 20 dB) and works regardless wether the distortion is on or off.

Check out Dave Barber's custom pedals. They're some of the best out there. He has lots of sound clips on his site and the reviews at harmony central beat out practically all other pedals on the market.

as long as we're talking about EQ-pedals, is the Boss GE-7 equalizer good? Or would you recomend another one?
