Hey guys! How are you? This week I experimented something that doesn't happen very often. I'm a happy, enthusiastic person, but when this happens I live even happier and more excited. I started liking Mastodon a lot. biggrin.gif

I gave them lots of chances and for any reason I wasn't very into them. I have friends that have been talking great things about this band for years but I was never really convinced. However, this week I found a live version of this song and my head made a click:

It's a killer song, it's rocker, metal, progressive, catchy, melodic... it's everything. As soon as I finished listening to this song I checked their latest album and I love it. I know that the reason can be that it's their "catchiest" album, but catchy doesn't mean bad, for me means better.

So, a Mastodon style lesson could be my next goal.

Any other fans of this band? Some other similar bands to recommend?

I hear you. sometimes there's a band I hear and am really not into, sometimes even a genre, and then I hear a band live or one particular song and I'm liike... well, I love this song, maybe the rest will grow on me smile.gif

I typically don't like progressive pop punk, but just recently I heard this album by a local band, and I couldn't stop listening. They are, quite honestly, the most well composed, sophisticated aritsts I've heard in their genre, and now I listen to their album on a regular basis for inspiration for non pop/punk songs!

here they are - give a listen and tell me what you think. They are also on Spotify - Elephantitis is my favorite album

yeah, that's exactly what I wan meaning! Thanks for the link, I'm checking the first song and they sound very cool. They really know how to combine melody with progressive stuff in a modern way. The voice reminds me a bit to at the drive in and some of the sounds to hardcore bands like Underoath. Interesting.

LOL! that's funny because I was just talking to Cosmin a few days ago about how much Ive been playing the new Mastodon album. I was exactly the same, Gab, Ive never really clicked with the band but this album 'once more round the sun' has just blown me away. It was the track 'High road' that first grabbed me and once I heard the other tracks I was hooked.
An older Mastodon track you might like after listening to their newer stuff is 'oblivion' ( if you've not heard it before ) I thought it had the same vibe:

Also, if you've not heard 'Baroness' they are worth a listen. I find that they go quite well with Mastodon -

** BTW a Mastodon lesson would be fantastic biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

hehehe so you really enjoy their live concerts. They've never came here but maybe with this new album some extra popularity can bring them to Argentina. smile.gif

MASTADON!! Local Georgia Boys that did pretty well for themselves!! Them and Sevendust are the shining examples of heavy bands from GA that broke through and are making their mark and making a living at it smile.gif

Mastadon always has had more PUNCH in a live setting IMHO. They can do the studio thing, but it's just an excuse to tour smile.gif

It's a VERY small scene here in Georgia but it's pretty hardcore.

MASTADON recorded their first demo at the same place that my old band GNOSTIC recorded our first demo. A place called LEDBELLY SOUND STUDIOS

http://ledbellysound.com/

The guy that runs is a local legend. Heavy bands go straight to this one guy. smile.gif ATHEIST also recorded their last album there since the drummer for ATHEIST (steve flynn) is the same guy that drums for GNOSTIC. smile.gif Small world!! Here is a list of LEDBELLY clients to give you an idea.

my bad smile.gif Much better at guitar than spelling it seems sad.gif But yeah they are a great band an it's killer to see them come out of the Atlanta/Georgia scene!

Suprised that the typo is the one thing that stood out in the post.

Well, I've seen a lot of situations in which folks have misspelled their name, so I thought it would be a good idea to set things straight! smile.gif But hey, I have difficulties spelling Ejafjallajökull - the Icelandic volcano laugh.gif
