Duuuuuuuuuudes !
It's time for another simple, straight down the middle, hard rock collab. You'll recognise the backing from one of my lessons, 'Running Around'. There's only 2 chords - G5 and D#5.
They are both power chords (root+5th) but the 5th and minor 6th progression of the first chord suggests an overall tonality of G minor.
So, the G Minor scale is your friend for this one !

Tempo is 100bpm - Enjoy !
This is an audio only collab so please send me audio files in either mp3 or wav format
Oops, I forgot... Deadline is Wednesday 28th March !
This is a great backing mate! I will jam over it and if something cool appears I will post it here!
I'm back, Ben!! Been a while since I joined a collab. As soon as I saw this, I started singing (yes, with my voice ) to the track and so evolved the final piece here.
I followed my heart and this is what I bring you. (on my brand new Ernie Ball Cobalt Strings)
I composed my take to fit somewhere in the middle. I seem to write better choruses than verses.
P.S. I tried to think of what my take reminded me of, and then I remembered "Africa" by Toto. It's been a long time since I have been this satisfied with a guitar solo I wrote. I hope you all like it too. \m/ I posted a http://youtu.be/isBbScRakLw on my YouTube for those interested in watching me play this exact take recorded live.

I'm in too. When is the deadline ??
Damn Mr B. You're fast ! I like it
I was trying to learn that lesson when I first joined GMC. I put it on the back burner as I needed to improve some areas of my playing first. I hope you don't mind if I try some of licks from the lesson or something similar patterns in the collab?
Did somebody say "Minor Scale?", IM IN! When is our "Wrap Date"?
Todd
Here is my take
Superize and Fireball ! May I congratulate you both on your most excellent solos ! Very melodic with great tone, thank you for your contributions.. and so swift too !
Great work, Superize!!!
Okay here goes:

I tried to go with "less is more" but I failed
Ok, I obviously work too much. Didn't pay enough attention to GMC this week. Faster than I can say "beer bottle", you guys have already posted your awesome takes. I'll start working on this one, this very minute. Count me in, Big Ben!

Hey I didn't think it was bad at all, WeePee! It's your own style.
Hey Ben, awesome backing track! Count me in!

Here is my take Ben. Worked this out over the last couple days, tried to experiment a little in terms of scales used, so there may be a few wrong notes! Timing is a little off in places as well, but I got a busy week coming up and wanted to get it done and submitted while I stiil had time to do it. Really enjoyed playing with this track, really enjoyed listening to the takes others have already submitted, and am looking forward to the final mix!
P.S. I tried to leave a little room on each end so you can work it into the mix easier.
Taking a break from Dojo duty ( my turn to clean the privy's ) to contribute a little lick.
Hope it pleases.
Regards Lixxx
PS: Since I fail to get my JM4 to play mp3, and converted wav seem to be wrong frequency-or-some-like-that I have one with Metronome ( WOOOW) and one without .
GUITAR TAKES!
Here is my guitar take. I went a bit LOCO on FX/stomp boxes/Rack modules with the OVERLOUD TH2 as I was neck deep in building some crazy presets at time. I plan to share them in the TH2 thread as a bonus!

Thanks!! I used my YJM start with a Fender Hotrod amp with some reverb, a Tubescreamer for a little boost and snowball usb mic.
I like to just plug in and play... sometimes the sound turns out OK and others times not
Ok, hope this works. Tried to follow your instructions Ben so lets see.

Superize - Great melody and control shown throughout. I really like your use of chords (sounds like 2 note type chords if I'm right ?) in this as well. Your alternate picking runs have definitely improved too. Perhaps one thing that could feature more in future solos is more bending maybe. Great work !
WeePee - Probably my favourite solo of yours so far ! I really love the use of Wah and you whacked out some brilliant rhythmical phrases right at the beginning. Nothing I can think of to criticise so just keep working hard !
Casinostrat - Some great lines in here, nice phrasing. There's a couple of awkward sounding note to my ears. One is about 8 seconds into your solo. I think you're using a pentatonic type sequence but it's got a C Minor Penta sound instead of a G minor sound. Although the notes are not 'outside' the scale, the combination of them in a certain order can sound almost wrong. Kirk Hammett does it quite a lot deliberatly in his solos but I've never thought that it works. It's mainly the combo of F, D# and C that sound awkward because they create a C Minor tonality. It's only a minor criticism but I thought I'd explain it as best I can hence the long writing. Your take is great !
Lixxx - Very nice, laid back approach here. One thing that might make it better is to use the silences in a different way. Instead of waiting for a couple of bars to pass and then coming on on the exact start of the bar, try to explore the idea of starting phrases at the end of a bar so they carry over into the start of a new one. I hope that makes sense ? This makes it less predictable and less like 'I'm going to wait until this point and start again'.
Fireball - I really like the way you start the 2 opening phrases the same way but when you climb up for the tail end of each phrase you choose a different note the second time. It's a very Vai type way of approaching melody and it really works well ! No criticisms I can think of.
Todd - You really need to practise your alternate picking, dude.. there's a guy called Todd who... oh, wait.. Teehee. Love your take man, the tonal variations are killer !!
DeGroot - I really like this take. It's an unusual sound with those harmonies and that tone but it really works ! It's uncanny how much like Vinnie Moore you sound in places. No criticisms as such, only keep working on those sweeps to make 'em even better !
Llibach - Cool, rhytmical take here. Try to work on your vibrato so you can make it slower as well as fast and buzzy. I like your open string lick. After that your picking sequence is a little meandering and needs a stronger direction. Apart from that it's allll good.
H4H - A classic take from you. You've definitely upped the ante this time and pulled some neo classical licks out of the bag ! My only criticism is during the second half, your first half is brilliant. In the second half the root note of G makes too many appearances at the end of phrases, 3 times including the end one. I think if the end note was changed to a 5th it would avoid the effect of feeling like we've heard that note too many times. Or you could swap one of the earlier notes and still end on the G. Agin, like the other criticims in anyone else's take, it's only a tiny observation, everything else rocked !
So, guys.. I must say I'm really impressed with the level of melody and ideas this time. In terms of content this is the best collab yet ! Thanks for getting onvolved, keep practising and see you next time ! Maybe the Sensei will grab his guitar and get his butt on the next one, eh ?
Now this rocked some serious socks off!
Great job Ben and everyone who contributed to this collab. I am really proud of getting the honor of wrapping up this great piece of music, even though I happened to land on a G.
H4H
Wow so many good guitar players right there !
To Ben: What, no comment for my sweep @ last seconds
Just kidding, Thanks for nice comments !!
5 minutes of pure guitar soloing! Just goes to show how much variety can be played over one riff. Awesome playing all around! Thanks for the comments Sensei!
Great takes everybody
So killer! WELL DONE EVERYBODY!!!! You all RAWWWWWKKKKKEEEDD!
I'm thinking you should make this in to a youtube video and just put up a still or credits or something, or GMC banner, etc. So that it can be shared on youtube. Actually, I'll volunteer! What image should we use?
Todd
This collab rocked! I really enjoyed listening to everybody's ideas.
Great Collab! Everybody did an awesome job!
