How important is sex appeal in a guitar vid? Here is a gal who doesn't hurt the eyes and she is quite a good player as well. 3.5 million views. How would this video have done if the person playing were very hard to look at? I've heard better playing buy various dudes on youtube that have a fraction of the views.

Touche' good sir. It did seem like the guitar vids with pretty gals got quick traction while there are some great vids with regular guys that go unwatched. There is just so much content coming down the stream from youtube, it's tough to gain traction. I have noticed there is always a fluff and ola vid on the front page of suggestions and neither of them are gals, I don't think, so there is hope smile.gif

Important for sure!

All earthlings use all senses we have at our disposal, therefore visual appeal matters. This is also why people prefer watching a video rather than an mp3 player, when listening to music.

She has got a much bigger target audience than a regular dude playing guitar. I think it's as simple as that.

Let's take Steve T videos as a different example. I'm sure it's not just other guitar players who watch this. I recon it's a bunch of dumb kids as well, given his sense of humor ... or lack of it. I hope noone get's offended. It's definitely not my thing though smile.gif

Playing guitar on Youtube is a long way to get some serious audience. However, if you do that naked while riding a goat backwards at the same time ...

Yeah, I know it's sad.

Never thought about riding a goat, but it would probably make good click bait! The gal in the video is fine player to be sure. As you mention, it does take more than good playing to drive traffic. We are visual creatures after all smile.gif

Very true! Also most people discover new music now through youtube more than any other streaming service. Even more than spotify. So the visual element is very important indeed. There are better players than the gal in the video on youtube who don't get anywhere near the traction that she gets. It's a real advantage to have a thumbnail for the vid with a pretty girl in it. I know that sounds sexist and just wrong. It's just how things work.

Speaking of visual elements, here are the all female band BURNING WITCHES two guitar players getting their Metal on. Lots of hair tossing in this vid. Seems like they are taking turns doing it. Good track though smile.gif
