For the picking another thing that helps alot is giving the pick some freedom to wiggle between your fingers, I've noticed that this facilitates the small movements... which in turn will give you more speed. Watch out you don't lose your pick though

Yep, giving the pick some freedom helps me to relax my hand and to feel what I play a lot more.

Interesting.. is that 1-2 hours of intense practice "flying-fingers" only? i dont think i can do 2 hours straight with nothing else than this.. guess i have to spread it across 6 months.. hahaha.. Its really true... playing things REALLY slow makes Your finger memory remember where the fingers shall be when then playing it fast.. (think we discussed this in another thread a while ago...) Jazz player John Abercrombie used to play be-bop tunes in 30 bpm in order to get the phrasing right.... But 2 hours/day will kill my appetite for music also... and I will probably wake up in the middle of the night playing the same phrases in my sleep. //Staffay -------------------- Guitars: Ibanez AM-200, Ibanez GB-10, Fender Stratocaster Classic Player, Warmouth Custom Built, Suhr Classic Strat, Gibson Les Paul Standard 2003, Ibanez steel-string Amps: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Marshall JMP 2103, AER 60 Effects: BOSS DD-20, Danelectro Trans. Top, top books and lots of truths to be found in there.
It's all about economy of motion, without going into economy picking, which would be even more so. |
