I have one too and it's simply great for blues and jazz tones, even some rock but if you want to use it for hard rock or metal you really should look for another amp.

A Peavey Classic 30 is an EXCELLENT foundation to build almost any sound off of. I'd recommend getting a good Overdrive pedal to put in front of it. Make sure you lay off the preamp gain, and just crank the hell outta the Master Volume. With a good pedal like a TS808 or similar and the volume cranked you should get some SWEET Powertube saturation.
If your looking for cold metal sounds be sure to ride the Gain on the pedal a little more and cut your mid's out of the amp EQ. Trust me, if you can't get a sound you like out of a Classic 30 then your settings are whacked or the tubes need replaced.
