Eric Johnson, Tapping/chord harmonic technique

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how EJ does what he's doing at 2:09 in this video;



It sounds awesome. Is he lightly touching the strings after making the chord ring to produce the harmonics or what? I can't seem to get that sound.

Not quite!!
If you watch carefully he makes the Harmonic with his pinky and then uses the pick to play the note in front of the harmonic point, that's where he gets that little percussive 'slap' just before each harmonic!

Maybe someone could do a video to demonstrate? Not sure that I understand the mechanics of it!

Ah, thanks for clearing it up! smile.gif That was actually the first harmonic technique I learnt - when I started I thought that was how everyone did harmonics. laugh.gif
