Lost the battle to cancer.
Sad news, R.I.P Eddie, you are a legend. 2020 ain't getting better!!!!!!!!!
I wasn't a huge fan of his music but he was an icon, a legend and we all probably learnt a thing or two from the man.
Just the other day I got a phaser stompbox and I was happy to dial that EVH sweet spot. Now every time I run the phaser, I'm going to remember the man...
An era has just ended for all of us.
Extremely sad day. RIP Eddie. Thanks for your magic.
🤟
I have friends literally crying, I'm pretty bummed myself too...
😔 I thought he couldn’t ever die...what an icon ❤️
Nobody did it quite like Eddie IMHO. Very sad day. After having lost my Mother to Cancer, I really feel bad for his family.
RIP
He changed guitar playing.
In the early 80s, you HAD to get at least a little bit of EVH into your playing or you weren't gonna be in a band.
RIP.
Yeah! Great idea!!
I never learned "ERUPTION". I always felt it would be impossible to do it any better than Eddie did it. I did learn his basic technique and worked very hard to make it my own and expand upon it. This is the same thing I've found with tons of other players. I can't tell you how many amazing players I've found that trace some part of their playing back to EVH. His impact on the instrument simply can't be over stated. He didn't invent tapping. He did make it his own and defined his own style in a way that changed teh face of ROCK forever. He is a legend for that reason. He found his voice and style on the instrument and impacted the lives of millions upon millions of people all over the world from every part of the globe. There will never be another one like him IMHO.

I've been watching EVH live videos lately and I've picked up some stuff and noted down some more stuff I want to pick up. It really is amazing how many techniques he absorbed and used.
Agreed!! The man was a master of a vast array of technique as well as pretty handy with the steel in coming up with very melodic and catchy riffs. So many of his classic riffs are instantly recognizable in just a few notes. I was always struck by how little he used the standard power chord given that his genre was hard rock. He had a very creative approach to the instrument which is part of what made him a legend.
