Hotel California Setting

I need a kind of setting for the Hotel California Solo. I'm using a Boss ME 25 pedal and a Line 6 spider III amp.

Improvising On The Correct Genre...

My teacher said I should find more ways of improvising. When I improvise I just use the pentatonic and blues scale ( sometimes the natural major and minor scales). When I do solos I mostly mess up the song and end up embarrassing myself. I need to get use to other genres like pop, country and others. Are there any scales I should learn or anything I should do before or during a solo.

Help On Finger Strength...

I've noticed that the little finger is being used a lot in chords and other songs.
Is there any exercise or technique for this. Not just for left hand but right.
Also, are there any books or lessons on finger picking.

Confusing Chords!

I am struggling to shift my fingers from a D to a F. The chords are formed in a different shape and i am not allowed to use the basic ones.
The tab is here:

E|--------2-------|
B|--------3-------|
G|--------2-------|
D|--------0-------|

I have to change from that to this (they are eighth notes):

E|--------5-------| 
B|--------6-------|
G|--------5-------|
D|--------3-------|

It looked easy at first but I've never dealt with these chords. I really need help and it's really bugging me.
