Well, I've been trying to work on timing, over the past (2) days smile.gif with my guitar. My timing is pretty good without my guitar, as I can actually think consciously about it smile.gif.

But here is an improvisation, over a well know carlton track. smile.gif

Tell me what you think. Some really sloppy, sorry about those few bits.

I think you did a great job, however as a member I have noticed that almost all your stuff sounds the same.
Everything I heard from you 'till now is the 'jam forever' type of thing.

I know it's just an improv, but as Pedja adviced me, try to work on building a climax on your recordings, and use Q&A methods to make it more versatile.

Hope this helps!

Like it allot. Much better than my attempts over this backing. Nice legato

Sounds like you listen a bit to Guthrie

I like it alot, but it's exactly the same as the last one.
You did some Q&A in the beginning, which I though was leading to something, but in the end it was still a 'jam forever' type of thing.

Again, I love your playing, but it's always the same stuff that I hear.
Hope this makes sense. smile.gif

I'm just a bit confused on the bit of you saying it's the same as lastone.. What are you referring to here?

It means that your tone is always the same, tempo always the same, kind of licks always the same.

The vid you posted is like 5 mins long, the structure's bound to get a bit different then.
I'm talking about usual collabs we do, like 20 sec to 1.5 minute takes.

Hope it's clearer now!

Tjchep, i really like both of your takes, great! You have another approche on this backing, which is interesting. Keep working on it smile.gif !!

Hm, concerning what kjutte mentioned above. I have to admit that i thought something similar once, but i would not say that it always sounds the same. You really have something like a "trademark" in your playing .. sound, phrasing and note choice, which makes your takes really recognizable. A lot of people are dreaming about to have their own style already. Maybe there is a risk that it sounds repetitive sometimes, but i'm sure as you progress, your ideas and lick library will grow and you will quickly fill a 5 min improvisation with a lot of interesting music and structure. Try maybe to play some complete different songs/styles from time to time. You can learn a lot of new stuff from there. But keep the way you play .. i really like it !

Hi Tim,

Very nice jaming as always. I would say that your tone and your vibrato are your trademark, both awesome. Regarding the jamming all day long thing, I think that from time to time you have developed more rythmic patterns , and I don't think they sound exactly the same every time you jam. I would really like to hear a song or a melody composed by you over any backing track , with the skills you have at the moment I think you can create awesome songs and melodies.

My two cents.

You have some nice takes and I won't point out some bits were a bit unclean as you already know that. I will repeat what kjutte says, that although your jamming is very good and you have some very nice licks, even when you're improvising you should be composing. So you start of slow and build up and use Q+A and finish with some shred etc. What you are doing now is good but it has no structure. You should have a sort of Verse-Chorus etc going even in your improvising. Btw I do like your jams a lot and your timing and licks are good. My critisicm is saying what you could do to make your improvs better, not saying they aren't good.

Hope this helps.

Well, yeah, I understand, but I personally tought that those two takes were, some what different as in the licks that I was using, and my overall "Structure" (or lack of) tongue.gif.

Yeah, I feel like I can be repetitive sometimes, and I defiantly do need to increase my lick library quite a bit with some more unique lines that I could throw in there that are a bit different than my normal licks.

Hey thanks man!

I would really like to hear myself to compose a song too! Unfortunately, I don't have much time between school, work and my girlfriend ( tongue.gif ) to keep up with everything that I should be doing musically.

Yeah, there were some pretty dodgy licks in there, tongue.gif.

I must also say that, I did a one minute take over a backing track that is structured for a 5 minute solo, so It wasn't nearly as easy to come up with something very structured over somthing that is just repeating verses, and never really getting to a chorus. Enough excuses though right? lol tongue.gif

Yeh, that is quite hard to do with a short backing. Just try and make sure your licks relate to each other, so try doing more Q+A, and do variations on licks you have played, like change the ending note on one. But as I have said in your other upload you have improved a lot on this.
