Can you be a bit more specific? Do you want to know about the design/usability or the scripting part? or both? laugh.gif

As for hosting shop around a bit, but I've personally heard good things about http://www.bluehost.com/

Yea as LanceB said, you will need to give a bit more information.

It depends on a few things, 1) what computer skills you have (e.g. PHP, CSS, HTML, photoshop...)
2) what sort of website you want to make (blog, e-commerce site, personal home page etc)
3) what you want to do with the website (have it up for your own benefit, benefit of others, to sell things, to make yourself known etc) and also, how much time you have.

As for hosting, this site has lists of free hosts and shows you the difference between them all
http://www.free-webhosts.com/free-hosts.php

There are heaps of web hosts out there, so prices are quite low to keep up with competition. (that, and storage is becoming ever cheaper). A good host in New Zealand would be around $10NZ a month, which is about $6 US.

As for general website tips, don't over crowd your page. You want the front page to be simple, yet eye catching. People do not want to, and will not, search through screeds of text just to find out what your site is about. So keep the front page simple, and the navigation easy.

There are quite a few online generators for website layouts as well, (http://www.wannabegirl.org/firdamatic/ http://csscreator.com/?q=tools/layout and http://layouts.ironmyers.com/ for a start) which give you a basic frame to start from.

Hopefully this has helped you so far, but if you can provide some more info then we can help you even further!
