GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Traditional Instruments

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 27 2013, 09:52 AM

Each morning, I get my coffee after breakfast and start browsing the GMC forum, while having a nice music in the background. This morning, I have discovered a wonderful melody played on an Asian instrument called guzheng - it mesmerized me and also inspired me to write this thread about traditional instruments.

What sort of traditional instruments do you like listening to?

For me, at this very moment:

Nice! When I was at music college, we had a drum workshop with some Tabla players, it was a lot of fun, and a cool glimpse into the music of the east smile.gif

The pleasure is all mine mate - I feel drawn towards more acoustic instruments lately rather than the electric ones and probably this is one good reason why I felt like sharing these smile.gif

As much as most people hate them, I really like bagpipes! There's something just awesome about them!

I also really like Hurdy Gurdies (that seems to be the english name for them) I've seen them quite often in my travels to Hungary and beyond.
Again, there's something just cool about them!
Seems as though I have a thing for drone instruments!

But is saying all that, these arent instruments I could listen to a lot, not really a relaxing sound. Though I do want a Hurdy Gurdy! biggrin.gif

Drone instruments are so cool, aren't they? Sithar and bagpipes enter the same category, don't they? biggrin.gif Have you seen this thread mate?

Very impressive to be able to play what you hear like that. Must be a lot of work, but well worth it!

Would you like to try it in the coming v-chat sessions? We can take turns in singing stuff to each other and then figuring it out smile.gif No time limits - just good ol' fun!
