Recording With A Digital Camera?

I found out that I can record video on my Digital Camera, but the video and audio quality doesn't look that great on it. The quality remains the same, but you are perhaps perceiving the recording as bad quality due to small LED screen and lo-fi speakers on the camera itself. When transfered to a bigger system it will sound and look better. Best way to check out is to transfer the video. Whats' the cam btw, does it have firewire? You should be able to get decent recordings with any digital camcorder? Or you are recording with a photo (digital) camera? If its a photo cam then you are not in luck, depends on model though.
