Hey guys, my name's Dan. I'm currently 19, and reside in the South West of the UK.
I started playing the guitar rather casually around 7 years ago, introduced to it by my Dad. Prior to that I played the keyboard when I was younger for about 3 years; although I don't play anymore, I was able to carry across some musical knowledge.
For the first 5 years of playing, my practice schedule was rather on and off, really. I didn't set myself any real goals, and although I was taking guitar lessons at school, I didn't really feel as if I progressed much. My best friend, Sean, came across as "a natural" and was and is talented way beyond his years. I always felt as if I was walking in his shadow, which I suppose I was really, but the jealousy and admiration never really inspired me to dedicate more time to practicing. I always had other things on the go or just didn't feel like it.
Recently I have been more motivated to have a stone-set schedule for practicing, and want to work my way towards and through goals that I set myself.
I have been browsing GMC for about a month now, and am truly impressed with the skill of the various instructors. I enjoy simply watching the lessons for musical value, and getting to hear other guitarists play.
When I started playing the guitar I got myself a very cheap classical guitar from a car boot sale. It was nothing fantastic, but it gave me something to practice on. A few weeks after I bought a Korean Squier Stratocaster (which later turned out to belong to a friend I made in school - he sold it to the guitar shop). After that I bought a bass, and then a 12 string acoustic, and then a cheap 6 string acoustic that I often carry around with me, to play at parties and the likes.
I am hoping to buy a Fretlight guitar soon. Having seen the technology and heard their theories and why tableture is a stupid method of learning how to play, I'm quite convinced that they are a revolutionary invention in learning how to play.
Anyway. When I'm not noodling or simply appreciating music, I'm a website developer. So, if your band is looking for something better than MySpace (a postering campaign I started recently to advertise my freelance website development) feel free to send me a message.
Cheers
