GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ First Rehearsal...

Posted by: Patrik Jezierski Jan 21 2010, 11:14 PM

today with my new bluesband smile.gif

I'll take it from the beginning...
It started out with a mail from a guy from my town who had seen my bluessolo post on youtube and asked me if I was interested in playing some blues with him and two other guys. My first thought was, YEAH!! cause it's been like 2 years since i played in a band, and the first time in a strictly Blues-band biggrin.gif
So after some conversation we decided to meet today. With all my gear packed I decided meet the guys, it turned out that everyone of them (3) was in their late 40s smile.gif So we started jamming and decided that we should start on some covers first to start out. So we played covers of some songs like stop breakin down by Jeff healey and done someone wrong with The allman brothers band.. it was AWESOOOME!!
So we decided that we were going to continue playing and scheduled our next rehearsal on tuesday next week.. So we agreed that we would bring some examples of songs we wanted to play, my first thought was Lazy with Deep Purple, Hey Joe might also be an awesome song to play, but i need a few more. So does anybody of you guys have some ideas on cool bluessongs to play?

if you're interested in the video that made this all happen, take a look a few lines down wink.gif

Hey! Congrats Patrik! I must know some of these guy's, since they are old-timers like me !!! biggrin.gif
Well, there's a lot of blues songs to cover.....

But I will say the standards are really "Sweet home Chicago", "Dust my Broom", "Thrill is gone" amongst others...
Yeah, and Clapton made a whole record with just blues-covers, hmmm, I dont remember the name now....
Then there are some Robben Ford cover-stuff, "Talk to Your Daughter", "Help the poor", "Wild bout You baby".....
Also check out Bonamassas covers as well as what Gary Moore does nowadays..... There's just plenty of good songs...

Congrats on the new band smile.gif
Cool way to get picked up through youtube biggrin.gif

Welllllll... I'll drop a couple of unexpected songs
Riot in cell block no 9, Johnny Winter made a great cover you could listen to. Don't know who made the original.
and then probably one of the coolest songs in the world through out all times - Milk and Alcohol cool.gif

Surprise the guys with - Warren Zevon, Boom boom Mancini

Your bandmates must carry tons of material, I'm positive you'll pick up a lot of "new" music smile.gif

I think these examples will leave me a good reference to some potential songs to play.

Riot in cell block no 9 is definately a song i will present for the "oldtimers". Couldn't find any great versions of milk and alcohol though. I'm sure it's a great song.

I'll sure keep you updated on our upcoming gigs, nothing planned atm, but we talked a bit on booking some gigs on local pubs this summer, maybe even in the blues-tent at the Malmö Festival smile.gif who knows.
Do you by any chance happen to know somebody who's good on playing keyboard? and might be interessted in playing?
