Seymour Duncan Sh-6b Vs. Emg Hz H-4

Jul 20 2013, 06:16 PM	GMC:er Posts: 760 Joined: 21-January 13	I like EMG HZs more than EMG actives, I have H3 and H4 in my ESP. The active ones sound more thin to me than the passives. But IMHO, EMGs (passives specially) are targeted more at lead guitar playing. You won't get really good pinch harmonics compared to an EMG HZ when compared to that Duncan. And, also IMHO, EMG HZs have more output specially when you're playing really loud, I've compared them to DiMarzio and while DiMarzio pickups have a way more decent tone, they don't have that kind of output. To be honest, the HZs I at least have loads of Bass and Treble frequencies, I make up for the mids with my amp settings. The mids really aren't that much gone, they're there you just need to kick them in the butt to get them out so it doesn't make much of a difference, although I'd change my EMGs with DiMarzio pickups any day. So depending on what you are using for speakers/headphones, they will sound pretty different. On a full range system with a sub, it makes the differences pretty clear. In the end it really comes down to your ears though, as you are the one your pickups have to make happy I like both of your recordings to be honest. I learned a lot from that pickup. The hardest thing is to nail a sweet clean tone that sounds just as good when distorted. Also just as you think you liked something a few days later you realize its not actually "there". Just as I thought I was close I changed strings and felt I had to start allover again I used studio type closed headphones, monitors, actual amp and different picks while testing the stuff I changed (cloud be internal or external like height, angle...).
