Hello folks,
I've just been looking at the specs of my SRV Strat http://www.fendercustomshop.com/series/art...color-sunburst/ It says that the finish is "Tinted Nitrocellulose Lacquer". Is this the same finish that the old guitars used to have that age nicely if you play the pants off them? Or is it a modern crappy version? Thanks Phil -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. A Nitro finish, when done well, is never crappy. Especially on a Fender custom shop axe.
The 'tinted' thing is that they just add some yellow color (tint) to the nitro to make it look vintage right out of the gate. You have to hand sand and buff a nitro finish and it does take some time which is yet another reason why those axes cost more. And yes, this is the same finish that older guitars (anything pre 1967 or so) had. -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

I made a mistake. That guitar in the first post is the custom shop version, mine is the standard version with urethane finish and pau ferro finger board.
Oh well, I still love it, I didn't realise there were two versions, the custom shop version is probably £££££££££££ anyway This is my poor man's version https://shop.fender.com/en-GB/electric-guit...0.html?rl=en_US Cheers -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. I got it for £999 used, always wanted an American strat in sunburst and then that SRV appeared on the market the day after I told my guitar shop mate to let me know if he got an American sunburst strat in for sale. Had to go for it
