I think this will be a very sad day and the internet will take a hit. Most people download movies/games/music because they don't want to waste hard earned money on something that may not even be any good, like for instance Lou Reed's Lulu cd. Who knows it might be good but if you couldn't download to listen to it, turned around and bought it I'd be pretty upset to waste cash on trash.
Youtube and that will die, most of the people here will be hit because we show songs we practice and that is actually breaking a law... If you listen to the later half it almost sounds like not only is the internet effected but our lives, bugging our phones and such. I guess if this all goes down to this extreme I will be leaving civilization, buying an acoustic guitar, boat, and an island! -------------------- Guitars:

I read a lot about it these days, and I'm afraid that this is a risky topic.( Somebody will shut down GMC) ! Nevertheless, diplomatically speaking - we all know how to logically conclude. I know, its almost like they don't want us to learn. I think that you would have to delete all of the songs, tho you don't tab or anything its still a public display of a song. -------------------- Guitars:

Guys, the bad news is, This isn't pending legislation. This in in place. It's been in place since 2011 more or less
and the United States and most of Europe are signatory to it. The good news is, it hasn't wiped out youtube or what not as of yet.Mostly, large sweeping legislation like this, is brought to bear much like tax code. To bring down people running sites like Download.com I don't like this type of legislation and personally would like to see it repealed and would vote for anybody that promised to do so. It's good to stay informed on these issues as we are creative folks and this stuff does impact us. Thanks Cosmin for the video which is MUCH MUCH better than trying to make sense of the actual legislation or even the wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Counterf...Trade_Agreement Here is a snip from the wiki with some semi comforting news. ---ACTA is not designed to negatively affect consumers: the EU legislation (2003 Customs Regulation) has a de minimis clause that exempts travellers from checks if the infringing goods are not part of large scale traffic. EU customs, frequently confronted with traffics of drugs, weapons or people, do neither have the time nor the legal basis to look for a couple of pirated songs on an iPod music player or laptop computer, and there is no intention to change this. I've just seen this video:
It looks like a catastrophe is on the verge of happening...what do you think about it? Will it affect us radically? I see it as a very bad thing, as it is ambiguous enough so that no one can go around it in any way...our privacy is going down the drain, if what they say there is true.. It could mean a lot of bad things, wouldn't you agree? This post has been edited by Todd Simpson: Feb 2 2012, 07:00 AM |

Anything that empowers a 'Big Brother' state of affairs is a thing to be scared of. Even if they tell you it's for your own good! I agree! "Big Brother" has and always will be a pain. Regarding Prison, can I reserve a spot in the Blues section? -------------------- My Sound Cloud Profile: http://soundcloud.com/casinostrat

Hey,
i think ACTA is a very important and interesting topic hitting all areas of our life. We should ask us what happened to our democracy when such guidelines, laws be adopted in secret without any information for us "normal people". To many lobbies with to much influence on our politicians. Nevertheless I'm not a fan of these "doomsday" videos and prefer a more objective view concentrating on hard facts. I just found a good FAQ about the whole topic but unfortunately it's in German only and therefore not really useful to share it here. IMHO ACTA is another weak law and it will have little impact on us. Anyhow I agree with Todd and like to see it repealed. Here you can add your voice against ACTA if you want: http://www.avaaz.org/de/eu_save_the_intern...read/?fp?144,41 Reason for edit: Typos This post has been edited by edguy: Feb 2 2012, 10:05 PM -------------------- My gear:

It's a complicated matter, but I don't think forcing anything will get them nowhere, forcing like that will just create a force reaction, and there will be a conflict. Internet is vast network, it's hard to just shut it down. Maybe they can shut down some nods, but there will always be some channels going. Technically, only bad thing we can experience is slowing down of our connections. Megaupload official domain is closed, but you can find mirror content anywhere. They are trying to prove a point, but they are just proving that you cannot catch something that is copied and placed on many servers across the world.

Just read the news that the german government is not going to sign ACTA. Sounds like good news, let's hope other countries will follow.
