Alright here's the backing guys. The collab is open for three weeks, so the deadline would be somewhere in the middle of March. Have fun! smile.gif

my apologies about the crappy bassline I'll fix it in the final mix, so it sounds decent smile.gif

Tempo:130bpm
Key: E

You can use Eminor pentatonic, Eblues, E dorian, E mixolydian etc.... smile.gif

Thanks

Posted by: kaznie_NL Feb 20 2008, 04:27 PM

I'd like to know the key as well...As being a beginner I can't find it out myself tongue.gif . I'll do the solo using minor pentatonic scale.

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Feb 20 2008, 05:32 PM

Off course I forgot about that smile.gif

THe key is E and tempo 130bpm

You can use Eminor pentatonic, Eblues, E dorian, E mixolydian etc

Smells, I heard your take and I immediatly had a question. With this backing it's prety important you have a bright sound. What kind of effect do you use for that? The BT is a bit busy, so sometimes my guitar isn't jumping out...

its my normal sound but using the neck pickup, rolled back the tone on the guitar a little bit and backed off the delay some smile.gif

also got little bit of reverb in there as well, apart from that just a high gain setting on the amp simulator on the POD

Edit: also I`ll add that I`ve replaced both bridge and neck pickups in this guitar and I think thats having a lot to do with it as well, decent quality PUPs do wonders for your tone smile.gif

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Feb 22 2008, 06:09 PM

Don't worry if your guitar don't stands out. In the final mix, I'll make sure that everything is heard equally! smile.gif

Nice take man. Thanks! smile.gif

Posted by: kaznie_NL Feb 24 2008, 06:27 PM

Here's my take. I had some serious phrasing problems on this one, bit of a though backing for me. But I think I succeeded. It's probably not my best collab ever, but I'm not realy disapointed either. It's just a bit "feelles". My best shot was on the ballad collab, but that something else. Here you are tongue.gif :

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Feb 24 2008, 08:13 PM

That's a nice impro man. Thanks! smile.gif

Posted by: JVM Feb 27 2008, 02:53 AM

Arr, I'm having some trouble with this one. I guess just finding a groove. I can sometimes bust out a phrase or two that sound decent but overall I'm not having much luck with this one... but still what a week left? Any tips?

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Feb 27 2008, 01:26 PM

Hey JVM, I've now updated the backing with a new bass line. It keeps a flow going. Also for the funk I recommend using some simple techniques, but watching for the rhythm more. The rhythm is the key, and you must get into the groove. It is not important wheter you play 16 notes or half notes, the main key is to keep in the groove. I sugggest not playing a lot of fast licks all the time, and keep blues licks here and there, because they do get al ong with this kind of groove.

Posted by: Joe Kataldo Feb 28 2008, 09:30 PM

Cool man, As soon as I get some time I'll improvise some stuff on it

I hope I can participate "2" times.
I made a fill (which I am posting now if someone wants to use it rolleyes.gif ) and I figured out also a lead.
However the backing track is quite challenging fast, unsure.gif and I am working to bring up my lead up to tempo. In the end it makes a good exercise also tongue.gif
About the fill, it sounded cool when playing along, but I had trouble synchronizing(not perfect now). Anyone has tips in that area?

It is called a latency, it is the time that takes your computer to do the proccesing of the signal from analog to digital, do the math, and convert it back to analog again. It is mesaured in miliseconds. Unfortunately if you have a slow soundcard you have to sync every file manualy, or if you use cubase you can set the default delay compensation value for each track you record.

Posted by: kaznie_NL Mar 1 2008, 05:14 PM

My tip, go to options in reaper and untick the snap grid thingie, or click on the lowest magnet icon. then before you start playing, count along with the count on the BT but do this on the guitar. Then after you played all you wanted to play, the only thing you have to do is match the count in the BT and the one on your guitar and tadaaaaah, no latency!

Posted by: soulstone Mar 2 2008, 06:29 AM

hi guys,

here's mine, i'm so frustrated i ended it with an x-man theme, lol. this one is very hard for me and i can't seem to find a melody that suits it especially improvising since last night and still making lots of mistakes. i'll make another if i'll find time but for now here it is. thanks all.

from the last collab (ballad one), my tone is still buzzy i think but at least it's no longer that quiet with an added tube screamer, but i don't know laugh.gif .

Hey, thanks for the explanation (ivan) and thanks for the tip kaznie. It really helps a lot. So I re-recorded the fill and added the lead with the updated BT. It is not exact the way I imagined, but I will travel tomorrow, so this is it... cool.gif

Hi Ivan Sorry for the delay...I've just recorded my take unfortunately is not cool as the "one-Take" I've lost, it miss something, mainly because the first one was improvised, now to record it again I had to study it a little, I know may sound stupid, but looks like that when you improvise your mind works in a completely different way.
