Alright here's the backing guys. The collab is open for three weeks, so the deadline would be somewhere in the middle of March. Have fun!
my apologies about the crappy bassline I'll fix it in the final mix, so it sounds decent
Tempo:130bpm
Key: E
You can use Eminor pentatonic, Eblues, E dorian, E mixolydian etc....
Hi Ivan,
Can you tell me what key it is in and the tempo please.
Thanks
I'd like to know the key as well...As being a beginner I can't find it out myself . I'll do the solo using minor pentatonic scale.
Off course I forgot about that
THe key is E and tempo 130bpm
You can use Eminor pentatonic, Eblues, E dorian, E mixolydian etc
Hi Ivan, heres my take, a few fluffs in there but was trying something a little different

Well well well, someone has been practicing around here. Bravo Smells! You opened the collab in great style!
Thanks Ivan
[attachment=4775:new_funk_wobt.wma]I struggled with this one.
Tempo was kinda fast for me.
I got a few mistakes in there.
I had to add a gimic in the beginning to take the attention off my cruddy playing....
Here ya go.
hey man, I'm having troubles downloading and playing the files. COuld you post mp3's please. I would really like to hear what you've played. Thanks!
I uploaded the files in an mp3 format.
Sorry about that.
No problem. Thanks for particiaption!
thanks mate
Smells, I heard your take and I immediatly had a question. With this backing it's prety important you have a bright sound. What kind of effect do you use for that? The BT is a bit busy, so sometimes my guitar isn't jumping out...
Don't worry if your guitar don't stands out. In the final mix, I'll make sure that everything is heard equally!
Here's my take

Heres my take. Never played funk before so not really sure if this fits. But I thought it sounded fun.

Nice take man. Thanks!
Here's my take. I had some serious phrasing problems on this one, bit of a though backing for me. But I think I succeeded. It's probably not my best collab ever, but I'm not realy disapointed either. It's just a bit "feelles". My best shot was on the ballad collab, but that something else. Here you are :
That's a nice impro man. Thanks!
Arr, I'm having some trouble with this one. I guess just finding a groove. I can sometimes bust out a phrase or two that sound decent but overall I'm not having much luck with this one... but still what a week left? Any tips?
Hey JVM, I've now updated the backing with a new bass line. It keeps a flow going. Also for the funk I recommend using some simple techniques, but watching for the rhythm more. The rhythm is the key, and you must get into the groove. It is not important wheter you play 16 notes or half notes, the main key is to keep in the groove. I sugggest not playing a lot of fast licks all the time, and keep blues licks here and there, because they do get al ong with this kind of groove.
Cool man, As soon as I get some time I'll improvise some stuff on it
The collab is open Joe, take your time man!
so fast man arrr
Great effort Joe, but you forgot to give me a solo guitar, so I can mix it properly. Thanks my friend!
Ahhhh...so stupid am I, I've delete all files, video editing fulled my computer, oh man I've to record it again, it was improvised ...thats why all people were uploading two files , that's my first collab...anyway give me some time and I'll send you the solo guitar....sorry
Great solo Joe...and what a intro hook!!!
Thanks Bro
I hope I can participate "2" times.
I made a fill (which I am posting now if someone wants to use it ) and I figured out also a lead.
However the backing track is quite challenging fast, and I am working to bring up my lead up to tempo. In the end it makes a good exercise also
About the fill, it sounded cool when playing along, but I had trouble synchronizing(not perfect now). Anyone has tips in that area?
<< EDIT - recording replaced by new one >>
It is called a latency, it is the time that takes your computer to do the proccesing of the signal from analog to digital, do the math, and convert it back to analog again. It is mesaured in miliseconds. Unfortunately if you have a slow soundcard you have to sync every file manualy, or if you use cubase you can set the default delay compensation value for each track you record.
My tip, go to options in reaper and untick the snap grid thingie, or click on the lowest magnet icon. then before you start playing, count along with the count on the BT but do this on the guitar. Then after you played all you wanted to play, the only thing you have to do is match the count in the BT and the one on your guitar and tadaaaaah, no latency!
hi guys,
here's mine, i'm so frustrated i ended it with an x-man theme, lol. this one is very hard for me and i can't seem to find a melody that suits it especially improvising since last night and still making lots of mistakes. i'll make another if i'll find time but for now here it is. thanks all.
from the last collab (ballad one), my tone is still buzzy i think but at least it's no longer that quiet with an added tube screamer, but i don't know .
Nice shot man. Thanks!
Come on guys, lets see some funky licks, I've updated the backing track, bass is now much more groov-ier
Wow, that's pretty funky man! Thanks
Hi,
I've recorded some vocals for it. And written some lyrics as well ... ok, they are what they are... sorry 4 the noise. Hope you can mix them well, Ivan
Thanks Jeff
Hey thanks a lot Angelica! It's a great effort! I'll keep comments for the final mix!
I can hear awesome takes so far!
Let's see it confusion!
Hey guys, just a quick reminder to put some funky grooves on the funky collab!
I'm gonna upload this tonight. Sorry for delay. My computer is on its last legs Give me a few hours.
Sure man, take as much time you need!
Sorry for me being useless but here it is.
Great effort man, thanks a lot!
one more week until the end of funk collaboration! Let's see some funky grooves!
A week? this one's open long man!
I thought this was shut on 20th like it says in your sig Ivan?
No, it's open until 25th You have one more week!
3 more days!
Hi Ivan Sorry for the delay...I've just recorded my take unfortunately is not cool as the "one-Take" I've lost, it miss something, mainly because the first one was improvised, now to record it again I had to study it a little, I know may sound stupid, but looks like that when you improvise your mind works in a completely different way.

Ivan you're going to do a take too right?!
Hah, I'd love to hear it from you.
We can share the channel, for ex. you play some stuff on the right and I play some stuff on the left, two complementary rhythms what do you think?
I'll make the complete track with no guitar on the right channel
@Tjchep
Sure man, I'll do one take too if you wish
@Joe
Sure man, why not, make the backing and your guitar separately and send me via PM.
Sorry for the delay- Im quite ill at the moment I've never tried funk soloing before so this has been fun to play with for sure..
