Fender has released some very spiff Signature Guitars into an already busy marketplace. The “Covid bump” has created increased demand for instruments as folks stayed home and took up learning to play guitar among other things. As a result, we have seen prices go up for new/used gear and a spate of new axes. Fender joins in with these.

KURT COBAIN “JagStang” ($1250)

It’s been 30 years since the seminal grunge album NEVERMIND was released by NIRVANA. Yup, 30 freaking years. Wow. So now seemed like a good time to release this hybrid between a Fender Jaguar and Mustang. Cobain took old fender guitars that were out of favor and cheap to buy at the time (like the jag and mustang) and stuffed high gain humbuckers in them. A “Hot rod” Jag/Stang was a very popular choice of axe during height of grunge and have remained somewhat popular ever since. These guitars were not build to shred/rawk, but they were transformed by Cobain and 30 years later are still weapons of choice for many players. The Jaguar has had a very interesting history. It was one of Fenders big sellers for a good while then almost went away completely (pulled from the fender price list in 1975) before being resurrected. Here is a bit more on it’s history. https://www.guitarworld.com/features/the-ri...e-fender-jaguar

CORY WONG STRAT ($2,000)

Mr. Funk himself, Cory Wong has a new Sig strat. The body is a big smaller than the standard strat so think of it as a “Dinky” strat. It has the standard features you would expect in a strat in this price range but with a slightly smaller body with reduced weight. At this price point it’s NOT a starter guitar, but would be a great choice for having a gigging strat that is a bit lighter and smaller for touring/travel. It also has an interesting push/pull pot in volume 2 that bypasses the 5 way switch and defaults to the fourth position which is what Cory uses most often. The instrument that this is based on is Cory’s “Highway one Strat”.The odd thing is that he says his strat cost $400 and this signature version costs $2,000? Here is Cory talking about his love of Strats and his $400 guitar that he prefers to much pricier models. https://www.guitarworld.com/features/cory-w...-effortless-way

J MASCIS TELECASTER ($1350)

This tele is based on the 58 telecaster that Dinosaur Junior guitarist J Mascis used as his primary studio guitar for many years. It’s a pretty standard tele with his signature pickups and a spiff blue sparkle paint job.

SCREAMADELICA 30th ANNIVERSARY STRATOCASTER ($1,050)
Attached Image
Another bit of nostalgia fun comes in the form of the 30th Anniversary of Primal Screams album “Screamadelica”. This is a pretty standard strat with a pretty unique paint job based on the albums artwork. Unlike some pain jobs, it includes paint on the pickups/pickguard giving it a custom look.

QUESTION: ANYONE TEMPTED BY ANY OF THESE?

*Here is a lesson in the style of Jimi Hendrix with a very STRAT vibe.

Nothing tempting me in that lot, but I have more Fender and Squier guitars than anyone really needs.

I'm at the point where I love it when I'm not tempted by certain guitars, it's like 'one less guitar for me to consider buying'

A Gretsch Duo Jet is what I'm passively looking for these days.

I saw the Cory Wong shortly after it was announced, but I forgot to post it here. It's the one I like the most out of those ones, but it's not high on my list of guitars I want though.
