We got quite a battering of rain in the UK over the last few days. As a result, a lot of the roads and country lanes will flood. We nearly got stuck in one yesterday but we made it, just.

Has anyone ever got stuck in a flood, with their vehicle broken down or anything ?

A couple of Christmases ago we got hit by a really bad tormenta that went on for several days. It was bad enough that it washed away sections of the road to the nearest town. The road was impassable for a few days until us locals did some running repairs - it took the Ajuntamiento nearly 2 years to do proper repairs. Lightening also hit and killed an old tree in our neighbours drive on Xmas Eve so we spent a few hours in the rain felling it as it was in danger of falling on his house. During the storm a 50 tonne rock got dislodged from the mountainside and crashed through part of the town - it hit a couple of cars and did some superficial damage toa few houses but no one fortunately were hurt.

Same road that got damaged also floods every winter down by the river. It gets deep enough so 4x4s can't get through. The Alcalde wants all of us neighbours to pay to have a new drainage pipe put in.

Man, that's some serious nature anger there !!

You definitely know you're alive though, when you face things like that every now and again. No chance to get complacent in a bubble.

I was living in Brisbane Australia when the January 2011 floods came through. That was a crazy experience! Plus the clean up afterwards was unbelivable!
I also grew up in an isolated rural town where we had floods once in a while. Roads in and out could be cut off for up to a month.

So ive had my fair share of that craziness i guess, but thats normal for us in that big crazy land!

1984 as i remember right in the dessert -- we have been working at the fields in a valley closed to Jordania -- rain was falling in the north about 200 miles away -- suddenly one man shouted that water was coming down from the top of valley and started to run away- 10 minutes later the whole area was full with water and where before has been a try creek now it was a strong river in just minutes !

We lost one truck and in a settlement a few miles away a little child was lost for ever and many people had to get saved by army helicopters.

Anyway it was great experience to feel this power and magic of nature .

Hurricane Ivan I think it was came to Florida some years ago. Was out with one of my friends, we were riding to the mall to get some new games/ music. We thought we had more time to get there and back but the storm hit really hard. The street we ended up on flooded so bad we could actually swim underwater. It was at least 6 feet deep, going into some people's houses. We swam through the street with our bikes and barely made it to the mall parking lot.

The parking lot was absolutely flooded, it basically a river now, and about knee deep. Lightning started up around then, really bad, and honestly up to this point me and my friend were having blast. But, when a palm tree was ripped out of the ground we decided it was best to head inside

We stayed there, soaking wet for about 3 hours, when it calmed down enough we rode back home

Fortunately, I haven't experienced anything like that in my life. The only nasty experience regarding water, happened in 2008, when there was something going on with my roof and I had rain coming down my walls

IF rain came at 4 o clock in the morning, I had to get up and dry up the walls with cloths and keep doing it till the rain stopped. It was incredibly frustrating, until we managed to figure out what the problem was and fix the roof (I forgot to mention that on the roof EVERYTHING looked normal so imagine how incredibly annoying all this was)
