Performer Guitarists, What do you prefer?

I think it's important to find balance. Buckethead has great things going on with the guitar, but the extra dancing and chucks, and the robotic guitar playing doesn't do anything for me. BUT it has to be put out when you have to play difficult stuff For instance, I go in mad monkey mode on stage only when I know I can do it without hurting the performance! Here's my little recipe: - before the soundcheck, I walk on stage and see the perfect spots which can come in handy in the key moments in the songs - Always check the length of the cables you use and see how far off you can run - make sure you can hear the guitar in all monitors around the stage if you move a lot - you don't want to run off and at some point...whooshh! no more guitar in your ears - always have a safespot - meaning you can hear EVERYTHING from there! Of course, rehearse the choreography at the rehearsal room with the band! Don't think that you can nail it straight on stage without rehearsing it first - it doesn't come easy at all! You see how Wes Borland gets crazy on stage and plays his stuff top notch, well, he worked a lot for that consciously! Especially the bits about finding good areas on stage for movement and sound. I totally agree with you on the final point, I can't stand it either !
