GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Not A Good Day At Work!

Posted by: Praetorian Sep 22 2008, 06:06 PM

I'm a police officer in New York State and we had a drug overdose saturday morning. The guy died, and he was shooting up with three of his friends. They were all sharing the needles with each other. Well, as we were processing the crime scene, one of the needles they were using stuck into my right ring finger. Great. I had to go to the hospital for some shots and now I have to take anti-HIV pills for 42 days that make you VERY sick. So...two days down, 40 to go!

Posted by: MickeM Sep 22 2008, 06:11 PM

Oh sorry to hear that, hope everything works out and that you don't catch anything that could be on them needles sad.gif

Posted by: ZakkWylde Sep 22 2008, 06:27 PM

Thank god there is something like those anti-HIV pills! Better ill for a month or two then getting aids while protecting and serving... Don't you get some kevlar gloves or something like that (unpiercable equip) when you go the a crime scene with drug abuse?!?

We aren't issued Kevlar gloves. We can buy them ourselves if we want to. Truth is, I have used them before and they are very difficult to manipulate since they are thick. But...I guess they would have been worth it!

Oh man sad.gif so sorry to hear.
Just take those pills no matter how awful they might be and in 40 days this will be just a story to share with friends over a beer. Good luck man.

That's terrible... sad.gif It would've never happened if it wasn't for drug abuse...

Posted by: Canis Sep 22 2008, 07:04 PM

My fingers are crossed for you ohmy.gif

Posted by: Tolek Sep 22 2008, 07:27 PM

I heard about that pills! You´re a really poor guy! sad.gif I even don´t want to mention what is waiting for you... If I way you, I wouldn´t do anything during these 40 days and just save power to recover very quickly... Good luck anyway!

Dang bro, sorry to hear that. Wish you a speedy recovery and thank you for putting your life on the line everyday to protect people! smile.gif

sorry man! i thought once u get aids ur done?

Posted by: Tolek Sep 22 2008, 07:49 PM

There´s a pill that eliminates the HIV-virus. However, one must start with the therapy within 48 hours I think. Otherwise, you´re done as you said, sigma7... Praetorian had a great chance that he was treated immediately...

Oh, that's terrible, as said above, better to do that than getting HIV or AIDS at least, and after a while I'm sure that's quite a story to tell over a beer like Fran said tongue.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Sep 22 2008, 08:26 PM

You're in luck they have those pills mate, I didn't thought these pills were available. In addition to your speedy recovery I also must pay my respects to you for putting your life on the line man. Very brave man you are for being a police officer.

but im sure everything will be fine bro...smile.gif

Posted by: Praetorian Sep 22 2008, 08:43 PM

Thanks guys! The pills are starting to take their toll...I feel like GARBAGE! mad.gif I am still trying to practice though! I don't know if the needle was infected or not. Probably not, but I am not taking any chances.

By the way Kuba - my parents are on vacation in Poland right now. They are touring around the country and are in Torun right now. Is that near you?

Posted by: Kuba Szafran Sep 22 2008, 08:51 PM

Torun is about 250 miles from Lubaczow, so pretty far. Lubaczow is located in south-east of Poland, quite close to border with Ukraine. Hope your parents will have enjoy their stay here smile.gif.

just rest up praetorian!

Posted by: -Zion- Sep 22 2008, 09:54 PM

wow.. that sucks major.. I really hope you recover from this..

But hasn't the hospital taken some samples of the needle to check whether or not it was infected.. I mean, if it is not infected with hiv or aids, you maybe could stop taking the pills?

awesome that they have those pills. Didn't know pills like that existed.. I can only imagine how ill one must become of them.. but better than getting hiv or aids..

Posted by: ItsMe Sep 22 2008, 10:04 PM

Hope everything works out for you! Good luck

I asked the same thing. The doctor said because we weren't sure which needle it was (there was quite a few of them...here is a pic) and the fact that there is still no guarantee. Even if the needle tests negative, there may still have been some microscopic transfer...I think that is how she phrased it. Better safe than sorry

Oh man that really sucks.......

Posted by: Barenaked Ninja Sep 23 2008, 01:46 AM

Wow. I'm sorry to hear your recent run-in. One of my best friends from college is a Columbus Ohio police officer and I always worry about stuff like this. Props to you my friend and I wish you well.

Posted by: besip Sep 23 2008, 01:55 AM

hope you be good man mellow.gif
take care

Posted by: SensE Sep 23 2008, 02:58 AM

This is like the worst news that I've ever heard, man. I didn't even know they have like anti-HIV pills and stuffs like this. I hope you are fine, man. God will bless good man. I always believe that. Be determine and don't be upset!

Posted by: FrankW Sep 23 2008, 04:31 AM

I'm really sorry to hear that, man. I feel for you. I have nothing but respect for police officers. Talk about trying to fight with one hand tied behind your back! You guys have one of the most frustrating, and ultimately depressing jobs in existence. I say wear all the protection you can as long as you can still do your job. It's a sick world out there, it truly is. Maybe some guitar playing will help you deal with it. Good luck!
