first assignment:

Time to complete: 7 days (next Wednesday)
Level: Intermediate

Remember: you must provide audio or video of how progress is going. smile.gif if you want it, and have the time to add drums and more instruments, do it. but for this first assignment I am not asking for it. so, since we have a dead-line to respect, you can rec your takes using only the metronome.

Part 1
Neoclassical approach:
Scale: A harmonic minor

Technique: Alternate picking exclusively.

step by step:

learn this first assignment start at 120 bpm
increase to 140 bpm
increase to 160 bpm
increase to 180 bpm

part 2
-routine
once you feel comfortable with it apply the following:

start at 120 bpm (2 times)
at 140 (3 times)
at 160 (4 times)
at 180 (4 times)
rest or jam during 10 minutes and repeat the assignment 2 times more. remember to focus on your practice, concentrate and have fun during the process that´s better than 100 hour-practice

REMEMBER: practice using metronome.

cool patters, ill have it learned fast i hope. 4 questions thogh
1. can i do it in E tuning instead of e flat?
2. you wrote to do it untill 180 bpm but the gutiar pro file is at 200 so what speed did you intend for me to go up to?
3. u used muted guitar, does that mean you want me to PM all the notes or jsut because you like the sound of it in gp the most?
4. what am i suppose to record at the end?

1- yes, off course you can.

2- well, that´s a mistake from me. I was tasting which tempo will work better for you. so, I though in 180 bpm would be ok. but I saved the file in 200 bpm XD.
so, your goal is 180 bpm, but if you feel comfortable to rec a take on 200 bpm, is also welcome smile.gif

3- well, both to be honest smile.gif on one hand I like the muted sound the most.
on the other, you should rec this assignment with a distortion sound, since we are focused on metal style. so, you´ll find that if you play this etude without palm muting you´ll have lots of unwanted noise. so, you have to find a cool palm muting position to block this unwanted noise but not too much.

4-this is one part of a little tune.
by your dead-line, you should rec this etude only with metronome.
then, for the next week I´ll give a second part, then a third. all this parts together will create a little tune composed by different techniques.
and in the last week of this month you´ll have to play the whole tune using a BT I´ll provide you. and then you´ll get your month evaluation. smile.gif

not necessarily man, the only technique I asked you to use is alternate picking. if you want or not use palm muting is your choice. smile.gif

i really liked the sound of the new one, since i have a lot of time i would try and record everything in video and i am very happy for the step up in difficulty level!
anyways i will try also to provide video of the first rec but to tell you the truth all i did was using the classical one finger per fret technique and used first finger for the alternating open high e and fretting the notes.

i would like to really put an emphasis on "the band" so to speak to learn how to compose a full song including all instruments, so for this exercise i will try to also add drum, bass and maybe also a rhythm guitar
