Hey. me and my band have just started writing our own song. Am i "copycat" if i use same chord progression as some other? Im using the chord progression in a lesson by kristoffer dahl.

No, I don´t think so.
 Many songs have the same chord progression, but another rhythm (sometimes it´s even the same  ). Just take Punk songs. They are nearly all the same.

If it's just (not much unique) chord progression then probably no.

Many songs have the same progression, but if the lead melody, or vocal melody is not the same or the rhythm is not the same - it can be a completely different song.

There arent an infinite amount of chord progressions to choose from.. so there's bound to alot of similarities every now and then. Nothing unusual there

yeah its fine, just look at druming, many songs have the same main drum beat too

Progressions are reused all the time. Generally you are not a copy cat if you do that, but I would recommend working on the progression on your own and what you end up with - its cool and yours! I don't think a method of listening to lessons/songs and seeing which progression you like and "copying" directly is good approach because you want to experiment with chords and try to build your own progressions in order to develop your playing. And +side is that you may end up with something really really original that way.

Trond is perfectly right, there is only a limited amount of possible progressions, so some similarities will show up from time to time, but a song is not only consisting of chord progressions, you have vocals, melodie lines, leads, keys, whatever, so you for sure can still turn it into something unique.
