After I play for a while my strings detune and they all go sharper than they were.
Shouldn't they go flat? Because of 'stretching' them a little. Or (at least) shoudn't some go flat and some sharp?
But these strings go sharper by approximately the same amount each.

Weird. So it's all of them? If it's just some of them it could be that the other strings are just flattening so it makes the others seem sharper, but if they're all sharpening then they're kind of staying in tune, so I'm assuming you used a tuner to check it out.

I'd guess it's a humidity thing.
The main reason for my guitar to go out of tune is changes in humidity.
All strings are alway the same amount off tune, either sharp or flat.

I think it's the more humidity, the more I have to loosen the strings. Or the other way around smile.gif

Yes, I used a tuner.

Hmm, never thought about it this way. Maybe you're right, but yesterday I tuned them before playing and not long after into playing they detuned like that. But the guitar was in a suitcase before. But I didn't rush into tuning, I think I left it on the bed for some time and went check something out. And they weren't all flat or sharp when I started to tune.
So, maybe it's humidity, but it's still strange.
Does the humidity take affect slowly and gradually?

Auch, sorry about the necks.

Well, I think the weather is pretty normal here. But I'm not sure. blink.gif I'm usually the last one to notice the difference. Just the other day (I don't think it's been like this lately) it was a lot hotter and humid than some other day and everybody was saying that, but I just wasn't sure. smile.gif

Oh, could it be that the strings are bad (Blue Steel) or that I've stretched them too much?

Do you have a floating bridge ? If so, are the springs fresh on it and the intonation set correctly ? Are the strings super fresh or super old ?

Yes, I have a floating bridge. It's set completely parallel. The springs are super fresh as the guitar is new, or it was new in April. But it's been in the shop before. How often do the springs need to be changed?

Intonation is perfect. biggrin.gif

The string are like a little over a month old. And I think I wear them down pretty quickly. So it's time to change them. But shouldn't they go flat if this were the case?

Hard to say with a floating bridge. IMO, a month isn't very old for strings - I've had strings keep their tune for so much longer than that.

If the springs are stronger than the pull of the strings then i suppose that could technically raise the pitch by a bit ? That's working off the theory that as you play your fingers warm the strings a bit, causing them to relax - then the stronger pull on the strings would create additional tension on the strings, raising the pitch.

Of course, that's just my logistical guess.

Yeah, floating bridge might be issue here.
Sometimes it gets stuck a bit with wood(body) on the side/s.
Check out does it have enough room to move free.
Or perhaps contact between bridge and two big screws on the front of body is not that good as it should be...

With a floating bridge, strings will increase in tension if just ONE String is loosened or taken off or anythign liek that, the bridge is held up by the strings so when one loosens in anyway, the other strings are put under more stress to compensate.

Best thing to is either have it professionaly set up at a guitar shop, or you can yourslef mess with adjusting the tension of the strings, with the tension of the bridge.

And this is not the case, the weather can cause this to happen. try to keep your guitar in a room with a constant temperature. it works for me.

Yes, the bridge can move up and down, if that's what you mean.
I'm not sure how it can get stuck. It seems to me there is enough space between the body and the bridge on the sides.

Which two big screws? You mean the ones for intonation or the string highth? Or did you mean in the back?

Yeah, I did that already, you gave me great advice on it. And the bridge is parallel to the body.

And I did take it to a guitar shop then and they said everything was fine.

I think I just got an idea. smile.gif

I meant "sort of" stuck but if it has enough space than it's ok smile.gif
Yeah, screws that adjust hight of the bridge.
Bridge is rolling over them while you're doing whammy stuff and if there is some rust on it,
then bridge doesn't return to its original spot.
It's just something I think might be...not exclusive tho smile.gif

Oh, no there's no rust.

Well, the height seems to be fine, I think. It was a while ago. This can also affect the tuning?

Didn't work.
I thought there was something wrong in the back, because I kept interchanging drop d and standard tuning (the two really need just a little adjustment). This and something awile ago - which reminds me I need to update another topic, which doesn't seem to have anything in common with this one.

So then I inspected the strings, and they were in a not-so-good condition. The high strings were worn under the frets and under a closer look didn't look too straight. blink.gif

That's odd blink.gif

Deal is,I used floating bridge a lot before and had same problems here and there.
But after I got Musicman with only way-down Floyd,I sleep like a baby smile.gif

Well, my main suspect are the strings for now.

(I over-stretched them and now they're shrinking because they remember what I did to them back when they were new. smile.gif )
