Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi azureus!

As it happens with the other Malmsteen lesson, your playing is very promising. You are on the right track but please pay attention to these things:

- Your vibrato needs work to sound more consistent. The first thing that I recommend fixing is to let the note sound a bit before starting the vibrato movement. (Check Ben in lesson). The second problem is that your vibrato is sounding a bit our of tune. It seems that you are bending the string a bit and the vibrato is not focusing on the right pitch. The third thing that you can improve here is the rhythm (vibration) of your vibrato, which should increase gradually and connect more with the backing's groove. Practicing this over the instructor can really help.

- Besides vibrato, you need to re-check the rhythm of some phrases, it's not as it's played in the original lesson.

That's all by now, keep on the hard work!!

Super congrats on learning this entire piece and playing it back with such feeling. I can tell that you are emotionally connected to this piece of music which is what makes it enjoyable to listen to. without that connection, the music comes off as flat and uninteresting. This is well played and very expressive.

There are a few technical bits that could still use a bit of polish. The bends don't always hit proper pitch and some of the notes sound a pinch out of tune. This could be from the tune just drifting a bit on the guitar or from an intonation issue. Also, Yngwie vibrato swells gradually from a dead stop to something very wide and deep. That's what gives him his signature vibrato sound. You are doing some very good vibrato here but it could swell gradually a bit more and be a bit more exaggerated at the end.

Solid 6 from me!

I recently did some Yngwie Style Vibrato in a GMC collab. Here is the vid.

Cool Azureus,

I think your Yngwie style vibrato sounded more convincing in your previous REC take. This is natural though, because when we hone in on certain aspects of our playing we tend to not play as natural & relaxed. So I predict that when you let this sink in we will note an improvement.

Important: You are doing yourself a disservice by not bending downwards when you can - this movement is usually much easier as you can use the downside of the guitar neck as leverage point. Also - as mentioned - it absolutely key to first let the note ring for a little while without any vibrato. This is when we can actually hear the pitch, and if you apply vibrato immediately we will not really get a sense for what's going on melodically. I think Todd's video also showcases this well.

Overall your playing is very promising - however I think you miss some important concepts from this lesson, and I think you could quite easily correct this. It's a 6 for now - keep up the hard work!

Hey there!

I think this was a great choice of lesson for you, becasue I can notice you start to do the vibrato in a proper direction and with proper resting point. it still doesn't look smooth, but that;'s a good start.

Notice that Ben does let the note sound straight for a moment, before he applies vibrato

Try to find yourself a consistent speed of vibration. Ben uses triplet feel/pulse for this lesson but more important is that the pulsating is even - there are no breaks and longer or shorter "bends" in it. Try to somehow dig into the track and start the poulsation that corresponds to it's tempo. It is easier to establish when to pull the string. In your take it is visible you hesitate most of the time, and it makes the vibration kind of "broken"

Please be carefull with vibrated bends. You tend to take note above it's correct pitch and apply the vibration over already detuned note.
