Well, as some of you may know from reading the forums, I want to start making more recordings.
I have been pretty inspired recently by some good backing tracks and want to record myself doing not only solo's over backing tracks but also by doing the backing tracks myself and doing some multi track recording. I think I have a decent recording program (Adobe audition) and am sort of OK using that. What I want is some drums. How do I get a program that will do the drumming for me? I was once directed to beatnik or something but I could never really understand it. Is there a free Drum program, that is easy to configure, understand and outputs easily usuable sounds? What is a sequencer?...I have absolutely no idea but seem to think I need one (which is pretty illogical I know). Does anyone else here have any experience of multi track recording - how hard is it? I am thinking I will need about 4 tracks?....say drums, a track with me playing perhaps one strum of each chord per bar - ish - and then a rhythm track of full strumming and then a track for lead guitar?...does this sound about right?. ( I think this will force me to play "in time") or I will never be able to match it all up...lol so come on - talk drums. what is the best way - what is ANY way !!! -------------------- its not easy

There's a very good drum plugin, down side is that it cost money. It's called EZ-drummer and it's from Toontrack. I've always been lazy about drums and bass nd want it to be as easy as possible. In the old days I used to lay drum tracks using a synthersizer which was quite time consuming and never ended up any good. After all I'm not a drummer.
So I've been looking for sequencers and drumprograms that are easy to understand, I don't want to be forced to read manuals. I've tried demos of Cakewalk and Cubase and failed with both, they were not all that easy. Now I have found a sequencer and drum plugin that are very easy to use. I use Sony Acid Pro and as I said EZ-drummer. Both are easy and the drum plugin is just great, all drum tracks are layed by real drummers. But if you're going to use it to make backingtracks you'd still have to edit the drumloops to make them as the original... then I don't know. you can edit the ones in EZ-drummer but I don't know if it's the best plugin for making backingtracks then. And the sequencer runs on my computer without lagging, I don't have a real fast laptop. Sequencer=The program where you record your music Plugin=An add on program that will run inside the sequencer. It wont run without a sequencer program. I used to hunt for freeware but never found anything worth using. A cheap Shareware program is www.n-track.com but I uninstalled it after running the demo since it killed my computer, very heavy to run. I have a friend who's using www.goldwave.com but I don't know how it works and what it does or if it will handle plugins. But your Adobe audition will work with VST plus ins from what I read at their homepage so you already got the sequencer program. You should definitly try to get started on making music. That and playing in a band will really help one develop. There are also some great programs like Cubase SX and Nuendo! They allow you to create drums and have as many tracks as you want!
