GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Guitar Magazines

So, who buys guitar magazines? If so, which one/s? Do you find them useful?

I personally ocassionally buy Total Guitar or Guitar Techniques if it seems interesting when I skim read it in the shop. I find theres a lot of junk and adverts in them often though. The gear reviews are always good to read aswel, keep up to date.

The japanese Young Guitar is supposedly very good, unfortunately I don't live in Japan, or read Japanese for that matter!

I get the guitar center magazenes like every other week.

Is that a guitar shop free one? Yeah Sound Control send me theirs every month, its not bad for free! Although I do find their reviews rather biased, as they are obviously very hesitant to slate one of the products they sell!

I've subscribed to Guitar World, I think it's a cool guitar magazine, although there are sometimes these lousy bands on there and stuff, but mostly the lessons and reviews etc. are interesting. Sometimes I do buy Guitar Techniques or Total Guitar, and that is mostly everytime when I walk past them in a store and notice them biggrin.gif

I used to buy a lot of Guitar Player when I was younger, but to be honest, I don't think I've bought any since this "internet" thing came around...

I'm subscribed to Guitar World and Guitar Player, probably will soon get Guitar One also. Other than that I buy others when I see them around at Stores if I don't have them.

I also subscribe to Guitar World, and I agree: How do bands like Avenged Sevenfold get on the cover where there are so many talented bands out there? This month's cover was cool though, with Jimmy Page and a great interview with him inside.

Occasionally, if the cover interests me.

I usually buy one if Paul Gilbers on the front as his lessons are extremely usefull. Other than that Im generally not fused. If im reading a magazine I should be practicing ! biggrin.gif besides, GMC give me more than enough to study ! cool.gif

My boyfriend gave me a subscription to Guitar World last year for christmas and I just renewed it last week.

Very cool stuff in magazines, but i think they some of them became just advertising magazines with little real good articles.

Very true.

I buy four or more every month. I get Guitar Techniques(the best) Total Guitar(was good - getting worse tho) and then choose randomly from the others according to what's in them that month.
Storing them is a pain. They are heavy.

Yeah, what I really liked was that they showed his new Gibson Les Paul Custom, it's an awesome guitar! smile.gif

yeah, Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques are definetly my favourites, I much prefer them over the American magazines (far too many ads and the print is very small) smile.gif
But I've started to notice that Total Guitar repeat their features. For example, the Guitar Olympics exercises were exactly the same as the Metal Special workout :S. Guitar Techniques also does a little too much on Stevie Ray and Hendrix and those sorts, although good, doesn't interest me too much.
But both mags are great reads on plance for example smile.gif Nothing better than mp3 shuffle and a good interview or review biggrin.gif

well few years ago I use to buy "GUITARRA TOTAL" ( the spanish bad-version of TOTAL GUITAR ) but I was so tired and I stop buying it, now I think it's not necessary to buy anything 'cos here in GMC (and ocassionaly in another webs) we can find all we need a lot more.

Posted by: DeepRoots Dec 13 2007, 09:13 AM

Well i bought Guitar Techniques yesterday- i bought it for one article- a "modern metal" lesson where it went in depth "in the style of" John Petrucci. There wer a good 4-6 pages good article.
However as a whole i though there was quite a lot of naff stuffed in, just to fill the pages wink.gif

Put Petrucci or Gilbert on a mag cover- just the name will sell it for me smile.gif
