GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Great Lesson Idea!

Posted by: Ryan Jul 18 2007, 03:19 AM

I am pretty sure this has not been covered here, but heres my idea. DYNAMICS, im pretty sure thats what its called. Hitting notes softly, and some harder. Loud, and quiet. That type of thing. I know people dont really need to work on. Hitting the note soft, or hard, but what about speedpicking softly?? and how to 'properly' use dynamics!! This would be a cool lesson. What do you guys think??

Interesting - yu can add a lot of soul to your music by using the right dynamics in your phrasings, it might make a great lesson smile.gif

agreed and I know that speed picking at different intensities and being able to control that is extremely difficult. Ive even heard comments about that from Paul Gilbert which he still practices.

Vai is amazing at this ... but in his slower sopngs, check out whispering a prayer for dynamics. He cheats a little because he is using a sustainer I now know from Pavel smile.gif But you can really feel the dynamics in action:

Also, Check out Damien Rice's first album. Its acoustic but he usually runs the whole gamut from inaudible string strokes to full on plectrum and it gives his music some great intensity.
