Has anyone done it, I noticed there is a seller on ebay who has a lot of Ibanez Bodies, necks and hardware. I'm wondering it this would be a cost effective way of getting exactly the RG you want.

Thats a lot of parts
 I didn't examine this seller, but usually these parts come out of used guitars so the seller can make more profit, so this automatically means it will be more expensive. Most important is the neck, the thinnest necks are as far as I know are on the J. custom line RG's today or (not sure exact) pre 1996-7. They also changed the radius around that year, before it was a very tiny bit less flat. Problem with old ibanez necks is that I would expect a serious fret job needed on them. I did read some where that warmoth necks are pretty close and priced good, but I suggest making some deep web search on them before pulling the trigger. http://www.warmoth.com/ from what I bumped into are usually people are happy but sometimes they get orders screwed up and parts don't fit so e-mailing has great importance. on I wood part rest is making sure the neck joint type is right...electronics are pretty optional so don't worry about that part. Also combining them is also important, you have to know soldering, adjusting...kind of dream that has hassles you sure there is nothing out there thats similar or close enough for your goal?

I'm doing a lot of looking, but I think you're right about the cost, most of the guitars and necks are from fairly low end used guitars 350's and the guitar center special ones. Ideally I'd like a 520 or 570. I also want to build a really nice Tele with humbuckers too, at the moment I have the money for neither, but I can still look and dream!

That's certainly one way to go about it
It depends a lot on how comfy you are putting guitars together. On a basic level it's just bolting on the neck and then dealind with the electronics. However, guitars of differing age/vintage don't always snap together perfectly and often, guitars that have some issue, are broken down and sold for parts. I'd say, if you are looking for a project guitar, and a learning experience, go for it!! If you are looking to buy the exact RG you want, I'd say go buy the exact RG you want You can get a nice RG570 on ebay in July/August for really good prices. Those two months are probably the slowest overall so folks usually sell at a pinch better rates. Hey Thanks Mr Jones, If you could recommend any companies as there are a multitude, I know I'll be using MJT for my Tele when it comes to building that but I'm at a loss when it comes to an RG.

THESE GUYS are good for Bodies.
THESE GUYS for Bodies and Necks. AREA 51. I have heard mixed reviews about these guys. Good quality but slow delivery. Mind you, that was just after they first started so it's possible that it's all improved since then! Cottam Guitars Max usually stocks all parts of Hardware, Pickups, Tremelo's etc!! -------------------- I'd rather have a full Bottle in front of me than a full Frontal Lobotomy!!
