GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Death Metal

Posted by: Enucleation Sep 8 2008, 06:51 PM

OK so, I am so tired of all these death metal bands where every song is "we don't like God OOOH! IM METAL!" "Church kills babies, Killin babies!!"

Now, I'm not trying to sound like a preacher or something. I just don't wanna listen to music that constantly bashes my beliefs but I really like bands like Necrophagist and Cannibal Corpse. So If anyone can give me some suggestions for Death Metal (of any kind, Melodeath, Brutal, Technical, Groove etc etc...) that doesn't always bash religion in their lyrics it'd be nice.

Hahaha, try some black metal - like Gorgoroth =)

Funny... But nah, I like Immortal.

two best death metal albums I have ever heard are:

Death - Spiritual Healing
Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption

this first one was huge inspiration in guitar playing. Great riffs and solos

I dunno man, there are no Christian death metal bands that I know of... generally QUITE the opposite. You should listen to the riffs of the death metal bands, and just make your own songs with your type of lyrics? who knows you might be able to carve out a new metal niche...

Posted by: Enucleation Sep 8 2008, 06:59 PM

It's not that I'm looking for Christian death metal, I mean I have nothing against it, just stuff that doesn't bash it.

I mean Cannibal Corpse dude XD

I had never heard of Cephalic Carnage... They actuayl seem to be pretty dang close to what I was looking for, in some cases it seemed to be almost more than what I was looking for, thats pretty cool. Massacre, I havent heard before but have heard of. Thanks man.

I like tonnes of death metal to be honest but don't know what stuff fully you want. If you give us a few bands. Try this maybe

Or this:

Well what I'm looking for I guess is anything from Death to Necrophagist to Cannibal Corpse just stuff that doesn't attack religion, as I mentioned earlier.

For me the best Deathmetal band is Vader!

Torture Division is the worlds best Death Metal band. They release demos's for free, and they are, as I said, the best death metal band in the world.

http://www.torturedivision.net/downloadgraphy

You can download their songs there, they have only made two demos, but a third one is on the way. The whole idea with torture division is to release demos for free.

And since they have Jörgen Sandström on vocals, they are the best death metal band in the world

I'm sure you've heard of them, but Insomnium has some pretty cool stuff. I like that they're more melodic and dynamic than a lot of the other bands...but I'm not a huge Death Metal fan.

Oh yeah dude, Amon Amarth kills! One of the greatest moments of my metal head life was meeting Fredrick after their show in Atlanta and getting a poster signed by the whole band.

But thanks everyone, If I would have posted something like this anywhere but GMC I'd have been bombarded XD

Bands that I really like are Kalmah, Vader, SuidAkrA, Dark Tranquillity, Bolt Thrower....

Many of them are not particular DEATH metal, but it's not far from it... you should check them out if there is someone you haven't heard! smile.gif

I would post some links, but im about to go to bed so im too lazy to do anything hehe biggrin.gif

Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ6b4DrMz2g. Piece of Time is a very good album. One of the early Tech Death acts.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsI-30k6uuA&feature=related is another good example of early Tech Death with some hints of jazz.

The Black Dahlia Murder
Bloodbath
The Absence
Decades of Despair
Dying Fetus
Spawn of Possession
The Deep
Jameson
The Bleedout
Blood Red Throne
She Said Destroy
Zerozonic
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Abrage
The Farmhouse Killings

Here is some recommandation on cool metalband that Ive mostly discovered over Myspace. Some of these are pure Death-metal, and some are more melo. Btw if you like Cannibal Corpse check Bloodbath and if you like Necrophagist check out Spawn of Possession. I think we have about the same taste in metal so hear through some of this and write what you think. Btw if you have some band that are not that famous you want to recommend so go ahead wink.gif.

Some bands I'd like to mention smile.gif

--Local band down here, But they have got some serious talent

Posted by: VinceG Sep 15 2008, 07:59 AM

what is behemoths lyrical theme? I heard its more Crowley than anything, but I could be thinking of something else entirely different.

Posted by: The Uncreator Sep 15 2008, 09:47 PM

There is some crowley influence for sure, But there is alot of mythology as well, Even some Friedrich Nietzsche and Nihilism at points as well I believe, And sometimes the songs are just stories that tell reflect some person trial or story Nergal has gone through, It varies a bit but its always about self-strength in some way it seems, Nergal emphasizes that alot, which I like.

I can't believe that no one has recommended Nile yet... at least not that I saw. They're very brutal, egyptian history/mythology-themed, and very technical guitar-wise... and their drummer is just fast beyond words. Their songs are just pure speed and brutality.
