I think it's very helpful.. I used it to figure out Strret Lethal by Racer X.. that's about it. But it's really helpful to hear and see how something goes

At one time thats all I used to learn songs, but I've noticed recently with being a half-step down and sitting in on some lessons I find myself figuring the notes out better by ear. Except when its a fast run then I try and do it to cross reference whats going on and what I'm missing.

Some great thoughts so far. Have you used some other similar program with same/similar success?

I only use GP for GMC lessons!
I rather write ideas, licks with the good old paper & pencil, or sometimes I sing & record ideas with my phone! |

I'm from the old school when we had to rewind and forward the cassetes lots of times until you learn a solo section. I'm so glad of that because I could develop my ear a lot thanks to it. Guitar Pro is an amazing too and I use it nowadays but the bad thing about it is that many beginners use it all the time instead of trying to learn songs by ear... so my suggestion is Use it but don't abuse of it!

I use it quite a bit to learn songs and backing tracks.
Like others have said I do think it (and tab in general) has limited my ability to learn by ear. |

for me it saves some time when learning a cover tune

for me it saves some time when learning a cover tune Yes, this is true, it can indeed save some time with tricky passages. Not that it is not possible to use slow down method, but it's faster as Daniel said, so it's more efficient. Any other methods of use? Practicing perhaps? -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

I've never really used it. I'd rather use simple tabs since it's free. I'm cheap.

I use it and a screen capture program to make little practice files for myself. I make playlists iTunes.
Some examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_eYrhdLs0k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31WZqUE2lTQ...feature=related I posted a few on youtube so I can practice at school. If anybody wants to share or exchange these types of files let me know. [email protected] John Foster |
