Hey everyone. I need some more music to listen to and I was hoping you lot would be able to recommend some new bands/genres for me to listen to.

Here's some of the bands/artists I like:
  • Pink Floyd *
  • Led Zeppelin *
  • Metallica *
  • Cream *
  • Jimi Hendrix *
  • Guns n Roses
  • AC/DC
  • Free
  • Bad Company
  • Black Sabbath *
  • Deep Purple
  • Queen *
  • Van Halen *
  • The Jam
  • David Bowie
  • Iron Maiden
  • Satriani and Vai

A star means I think I've got everything I want from them.

I like mostly classic rock as you can see, but I've been getting into heavier stuff like Iron Maiden and Metallica. I think I want to get a lot more metal stuff now, especially guitar-centered bands.

Thanks.

Hmm im not sure if you would like these or not but I am just going to suggest them anyway so you can just youtube them or something for abit of a sample..

Kyuss
Sleep
Mad Season
Opeths Damnation album (I couldnt reccomend bands without mentioning Opeth!)
Alice in Chains
Christina Aguilera
Opeth...
Katatonia

Kinda hard for me to suggest much because im mostly into metal and you dont really have much metal in there and the 3 metal bands you do have are pretty easily listening.

p.s. if you can handle abit of roaring you should deffinitly check out some of Opeths other albums as the guitar work is amazing and every single song is good.

My current favorites are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. At least for the next day or two.

Anybody else like them?

If you are into your Iron Maiden, look for the band Savatage. They were an 80's metal group in the same vein. If you haven't listened to Megadeth yet, I suggest the Album "Rust In Peace", which, to me, is the best metal album ever.

All that stuff you like, and you like CCR. They wrote good simple songs, had a singer with a good voice, and a beat. Ever heard the REM cover of "Have you ever seen the Rain". Its pretty good, not better than the original, but pretty good.

edit:

Robert Randolph, gave that a listen. Good sound.

I think you could get:

Dream Theater (especially the "Scenes From The Memory")
Beyond Twilight (prog metal, heavy with totally crazy lyrics)
Dark Moor (Spanish power metal band - really great musical and guitar work)
Rhapsody (Rhapsody of Fire is their new name)

Maybe you like some of it! smile.gif

Now I read your thread more careful, you said bands/genres! biggrin.gif I thought you were looking for only rock and stuff tongue.gif

Jazz:

Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Stanley Jordan. Theres sooooooo many other great ones.

Blues:

Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Hubert Sumlin, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, BB king, Howlin' Wolf, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Bjørn Berge, John Lee Hooker, Omar and the Howlers, Ten Years After, ZZ top.
Also Status Quo and Walter Trout band, thats a little more rock'n'roll than blues.

Metal:

I see you dont listen much to extreme metal, but I think Atheist and newer Darkthrone/Immortal albums could be great for starting smile.gif I personally think the old stuff is way better than the new, but their newer albums got easy but extremely cool riffs and groovy beats, Darkthrone in particular.

Also: Bathory(four first albums), Gorgoroth, Aura Noir, Mayhem, Burzum, Carpathian Forest, Pantera, Slayer, Hobbs Angel of Death, Satyricon, Nifelheim, The Batallion, Dødheimsgard, Anaal Nathrakh, Ragnarok, The Legion, Khold. Theres too many of them! biggrin.gif

Dont forget to check out Rage Against the Machine!

I see you didnt put a star at Iron Maiden. These are the albums you NEED:

Iron Maiden
Killers
The Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
Somewhere in Time
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Brave New World
Dance of Death

If you learn norwegian one day, check these out tongue.gif

Odd Nordstoga, Trang Fødsel, Gåte and norwegian folk music in general(Russian and Irish folk is also pretty good) tongue.gif

hmm heres some bands you might enjoy. Dependig on your mood

Violator(Thrash Metal) is a really good band to start off. They formed around 2002 but there sound is like underground thrash from the 80's. Totally good stuff. I heard the song Thrash Maniac and it totally just kicked my ass. Chemical Assault or there Split with Bywar is a good start.

Boris is another good band. There style is totally different from album to album even song to song. There sound is like slow and realy heavy and some songs are fast like punk rock on its prime.

Death is a good starting point to death metal if you want to get into that kind of heavy. There guitar work is a bit technical. Lots of headbanging moments. Lyrics range from Gore to Life Philosophy. There work from the 80's is a grimey and unproduced very well(Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore) and there later work (Sound of Perseverance) is produced very well and song writing is very philosophical.

Symphony X is a good way to start for Progressive Metal. Heavy guitar sounds and awesome complex musicians from each instruments. Plus there song writing and singer is top notch.

Liquid Tension Experiment. Man these guys are just top notch on what they play. Seriously, this is like the band you want to get into. There music is just masterfully authentic. This band is also an instrumental which is always a plus for me.

Mogwai is an instrumental post-rock band. There music is spacey at times and always good for relaxing.

Mahavishnu Orchestra. A band you want to get into if your into fusion jazz. Fusion is like combination of electic guitar and jazz music working side by side. Inner Mountain is a great album. Deff one of my fav albums of all time.

Those are some of my top bands. Enjoy on whatever music you might enjoy.
