Mtp Program, question to kris, andrew and smells Options

hi you guys out there

i keep on watching the mtp every day and trying to learn with the other members

last time i was a bit busy so i couldnt get with it all the time

my question is, how lng will you guys let it run until you take more members ?
we now have beginners and intermediates, what about some advanced level ?
i am trying to do both programs because i think theres a lot for me to learn from both sides, especially cause i think i am somewhere in the middle

let us all know about the progress from your oppinion

Probably the best people to answer are the members currently taking part in the MTP on how they feel it is going in general.

From my point of view its all going great, I can honestly say that I have noticed a marked improvement in the guys playing from their application videos, and its only been a few weeks! (this is both on the beginner MTP and Intermediate)

Kris, Andrew and myself are discussing the how & whens on introducing the MTP on a wider scale, so I`m unsure of exactly when at the moment, but soon

In answer to Harry`s question about an advanced MTP, yes of course, if there is a demand for it and we get willing mentors there will certainly be an advanced MTP.

The initial test period was for two months trial, that would give us time to work on a structure, again, as far as I`m concerned I`m more than happy to keep up the MTP I am mentoring for a longer period.

Just sit tight guys, I`m sure that this is just around the corner for wider introduction

for me i have also reached a point where i think theres no tomorrow, and at this point i´d like to thank Muris for his
Alternate Picking thirds lesson, man i am practicing this lesson for more than 3 weeks now and it is still a very strong nut to crack

i know that i am someone who needs to be told what to do, because otherwise i am practicing somewhere around but i dont bring it to the point, so i guess I NEED THE MTP

but in fact that i am doing Muris lesson i see a lot of improvement for myself
at the beginning i wasnt even able to play the scale fluently, now i am able to play the standard scale up and down at 80 BPM and i am also able to play the streches in that lesson without any problem, that shows me the step forward.

anyway i am a guy that needs (and wants) to be guided by an instructor so i cant wait to get into it.

So if any instructor is willing to start an advanced MTP - HERE I AM WAITING

I agree with Big Harry. I have been following the MTP beginner plan "unofficially" as well - Working on Muris' AP-Thirds lesson as well. I'm not quite there yet, but I started the plan a little late(Last week). I too feel that I need someone looking over me at least once in awhile. I've also heard many times that you really need to take a live lesson at least once in awhile to make sure your on the right path. I love GMC's self learning plan, but my biggest problem personally is I don't know what I should be practicing here at GMC and for how long, and with the thousands of videos available, I jump around too much(I want to do them all now), so my practicing is ineffective. The MTP is solving thjis that in that it is giving me small goals(1 or 2 vids a week at most), and then presents the next logical skill, like a live teacher would

Possible Recommendation for MTP (Smells, Kris, Andrew):

Aside from releasing the full fledged MTP to more members(I have a feeling this is going to be a problem as it seems like there is going to be a flood of people wanting in and not enough teachers - I feel sorry for the teachers who are going to have to decide who's in and who's out), what about a partial step in that direction - allowing non MTP members to post their questions and problems related to the specific lesson being taught along with the MTP members postings(But without Videos) For example, on Muris' AP-Thirds lesson assignment(Beginner MTP) I have read every comment under that Practice Agenda Entry and have applied it to my own situation to help me improve. Now I know we can always ask an instructor directly for help with his lesson, but it might be beneficial to do it in the context of the MTP with the MTP Instructor if it is not overwhelming. The entries posted on the MTP Practice Agendas have helped me enormously(Still don't have that stretch down easily on the Low E and A on the first exercise, but I am getting there)

So basically we would have people doing the MTP along with the enrolled members, able to get teacher help via comments, but the only thing missing would be the video critiquing of their progress - I know the video feedback is important, but it would be hard for the teachers to review and comment on all of them.

In any case, I really appreciate all the help you have provided here at GMC.

Hey guys,

Im am actually one of the students under Smells. I for one need someone to help me guide through this terrain.
I am very new to a lot of the techniques here as I was just a power chord metal player. The lessons Smells has been introducing has shown all of our weeknesses. But thats a good thing.

I am very happy how I have progressing. And yes Harry, MUris's Alternate Thirds practice is a very tough nut to crack. I beleive coffeeman is the only so far to play it at its full speed of 100 BPM's. Im just now reaching 80 BPM's.
But this exercise is great because now I am pick differently and understanding various picking methods. When I started this lesson I couldn't even do it at 40 BPM's so being at 80 is a very big improvement for myself.

I am very excited about the MTP. I actually quit gaming (Which was a big part of my life) to soley concentrate on my guitar playing. I want to be able to shred so bad but I also need to be commited to do it and I have done so by being here. My attention span is very short at times and it a big credit to GMC, startng the MTP for me to devote every night to my playing.

Just as Smells says, we are all still learning how this will work. One thing to bear in mind is that this is not exactly how things will look for the wider MTP program when we launch it - we will be looking for members at all levels to be both Mentors and Students in this program - the fact that its Kris and Smells at the moment isn't necessarily indicative of how we want to run it when we launch it, and we may or may not involve the other instructors.

As others have pointed out, there will likely be a flood of people asking for mentors and too few mentors to go around so we are looking at ways to manage that problem as well.

Bottom line - be patient! We want to do this right, and learning what is involved is an essential part of the process

Hi everyone.

I am one of the few who were so lucky to get into Smells lair. I really love this program, and from the first week Smells noticed what needed to be worked on. Timing issues which I, at that time, did not think i had an issue with.

Turns out however, that i was dead wrong. I *did* have issues with the timing, and every week since have introduced techniques that needed work. I love the fact that others (Smells) point out the "flaws", because often times we cannot see them ourselves.

Furthermore, It's really nice to get this feedback. Both from the other mentorees but also from the mentor itself. We practice and practice, and sometimes the advancement isn't so obvious to ourselves, but when others really point out how much we progress it really helps motivating us to continue working hard. And of course being in this mentor program, you also feel you *have* to deliver each and every week.

My practice schedule now consist of almost ALL lessons we've done so far. Except Gabriels lesson in the first week (not that it isn't good. It's GREAT, but i have only so much time each day).

this is how it looks at the moment:
Alternate Picking thirds lesson (Warm-up)
E minor Bending workout (all strings)
E minor Melodic Solo Lesson (15-20 run-throughs @ ½ speed)
Pentatonic Licks Lesson

I think it's great that other members are following our MTP. However, you should have some feedback from others. A couple of months ago i started a practice group with fellow members from here, where we chose lessons, discussed theory and helped eachother out.. It was great..

However, because we were all lacking "basic" techniques the lessons chosen were not that great.. Eventually the whole group died down, but it was awesome while it lasted. I learned a lot of theory here by discussing them with fellow group members.

Maybe you guys could do a thing like this to discuss the lessons until the MTP opens up completely?
It could even be a thread every week where everybody who's following can comment and discuss their own work, but most importantly you should help eachother out.
