You may have already seen this but I had to share it here to as I"m stoked smile.gif I just got a pair of HOMEWRECKER PICKUPS and I can't wait to try them out!! These are hand wound, boutique, pickups made from the highest quality parts. I've got one already in my Dean and it sounds so much better than any of my Duncan pickups that I had to get a full set. It's really tough to go back to mass market pickups after trying something like this!!

Nice, post some clips when you can :-)

I haven't tried those, but I've had a few Bareknuckle Pickups.
Compared to mass market pickups, they're in another league :-)
I bet the same goes for Homewrecker.

What are the Homewrecker pickups meant to sound like, compared to their closest mass production/classic pickup equivalent?

I noticed that to be true about several "Boutique" Vendors smile.gif Some of them are more expensive than Duncans, but they sometimes use much better wire and bits and can sound wads better. Not to say I dont like Duncans smile.gif But they are just not in the same league. It's like comparing a hand made SUHR to a shop built Ibby Prestige. Sure both are nice guitars, but very different in many respects.

These new ones are the PUNISHER series which are meant to stack up agains Bare Knuckle high gain Alnico 8 magnet based pups. I lOVE alnico 8 mags. I tried them in my DUNCAN ALTERNATIVE 8 and was blown away. The clarity is sick. It cured me of ceramic entirely, but that's just me smile.gif

Alnico 8 is just one power level below ceramic.
I found them to work nicely in any pickups 11k+

As me about my Michigan-based handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups. Est. 2010 - I wind more for hobby and not for profit. I do pickup winding, rewinding, and some vintage repair as well.

It's just my humble opinion but I think there is no "pickup manufacturer sound". When You see pickups from one producer's offer, we see many different models, many different constructions inclusing the size of coils, wire material and thickness, magnet size, magnet position, magnet type. differet pole pieces.

I would never refer to just a company name. I would rather use models comparison to be more precise

Yup smile.gif The bridge it 17k and I love the way alnico mags keep the clarity in individual notes. Sometimes ceramic pickups can be a bit fizzy or dark under really high gain where alnico pickups have a bit less gain on their own and hold up a bit better it seems. Bug again, this is just me smile.gif

I agree with most pickups wink.gif Dimarzio, Duncan, even EMG all have versions/specs that can sound very similar. The only real differences I've been able to detect are from really small boutique vendors and I suspect it's because they don't use the same mass market materials.

Agreed but they do seem so stick with some philosophy though, I think that signature sound comes from the entire line rather than a one on one compare basis. Certainly there are very few pickups I can identify but never be 100% sure till I actually learn what it is biggrin.gif
