GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ My Hands Are Covered In Poison Oak

Posted by: shellshock1911 Jun 6 2008, 10:06 PM

I guess I got it at work or something while pulling weeds, but there are red bumps popping up all over my hands and fingers, I tried to squeeze some of them out and put clorox and OMG it burned like fire, but at least they are getting cleaned out. So that means my hands are out of commision on almost anything for at least a week, no guitar, no long computer time, hell, I had to type this with just one finger, it took a while. At least I get to have an excuse for not doing handy work.

My buddy gets poison oak all the time on the golf course. THe first time he tried the chlorox scheme. Two weeks late the problem was still there and he went to the doctor who gave him a shot. Cleared everything right up. The doc did not recommend the chlorox method....said it was an old wives tale......

Hope it clears up for you. Get some drugs from the doc.........

Hehe, I guess so, I am also gonna try to cement my Spanish during this time as it has been rapidly improving lately, but most of my instructional books require writing, which I can't do. Damn, how 'bout that for my luck, school ended last week, and this week I get some crazy poison oak all over my hands and I can't do anything, why couldn't that happen during school.

Thx for the advice, yea that is what my grandpa told me to do, as he used to get poision oak all the time, but I am not sure how well it is going to work. My dad said it keeps spreading, I will have to go get a shot.

clorox was a BAD idea. It's called hydrogen peroxide man!!! its supposed to clean wounds and dissinfect, hell even rubbing alcohol would be better then clorox. Man that had to hurt. tongue.gif

Seriously, consider the doctor. He will give you a quick shot. The home remedies generally don"t work and in m buddies case, the made it worse....Hope you are feeling better and good luck.

Sounds like poison ivy. I had it twice one summer, keep a sharp eye out for it now, it is all over the place around here. Go to a clinic for a shot, only thing that will help much. Leave it alone, you are only making it worse. I know everybody says that, but it is the truth. Poison Ivy is a horrible experience, although I have heard that the shot will really help a lot. Otherwise, it is horrible. The itching is just about impossible to refrain from scratching, and it just gets worse when you itch. I would definitely get the shot, after what I went though a few years ago.

Been learning Spanish myself for a few years.

Too late for that, I already popped every bump and doused them in peroxide, I cried, but it seems to be working though, there is no more itching. I can't bring myself to go to the hospital unless I am about to die though.

that really sucks! i hate all kinds of skin infections, my solution, cover your whole body in some sort of varnish, it will protect you from everything smile.gif jk go to the doctor.. they are key to survival!

Posted by: Canis Jun 7 2008, 11:33 PM

Ouch, man. Hope it gets better soon.. Allthough, if you keep popping them, you'll get scars and stuff though :S

well I don't wish this on you, but I expect it will get worse again, and you have scars to some extent. also serious infections are also not a good thing, you can get a nasty infection. if it gets bad again, leave it alone! and see a doctor. just go to a clinic.

just making a point, if you asked every doctor or nurse on earth, without exception, you would hear a number or reasons why you never do this kind of thing with a skin irritation.

it is very hard to leave it alone. tick bites are even worse. if you get them off before they start gorging your blood (usually within 24 hours) you are probably safe from serious infection, but still the itching is horrible. hard not to itch things like this, but every time you mess with it, you make it worse.

Ouch, sounds bad!

If you were a real man you'd dip your hands in methylated spirits then just burn them off! tongue.gif

Haha, joking. Hope they heal soon. smile.gif

Yes! Tick bites suck. I work in a 110 degree jungle pretty much which is how I get all these things. I have like 4 tick bites, and I pulled them, but the heads are still INSIDE. I tried to dig them out but it just hurt too bad.
