I bought an M-Audio Axiom 25 and I was hoping it would just plug in to the computer and Live 6 would give me a couple of keyboard tones to fool around with while I learn more about MIDI controllers. I'm more than a little lost. Is there a Dummy's Guide to MIDI controllers floating around on the internet somewhere?

Can I help you somehow? I have Oxygen 49 and had some troubles configuring it also, because M Audio support for this device sucks. You get two pieces of paper, ENigma software (the name is quite adequate) smile.gif But I've cracked it after some time!

How do I set it up so that I can play some basic backing parts and record them through reaper? I'll be using Ableton Live.

Thanks.

Well I don't use the Ableton, but I think you can map the controls pretty easily by holding ctrl+c on the keyboard and pressing the control. THe software should then assign (learn) the MIDI CC of that control and map it to the last used control in software.

It's been a year or so since I messed with Live, but this sounds familiar.

Live has a set of built-in tutorials that are really good with getting a newbie started. If Live sees your controller, you still have to assign its input to...something. You'll need to assign an instrument/plugin to that midi device in your Live session before you get any noise out of it.

Before that, you have to make sure that your device is hooked up and the drivers are installed so your box can see it. Then you need to make sure Live sees it (in the setup somewhere).

If you're still having trouble when I get home, I'll refresh my memory and get better directions.
