GMC Forum _ Recording _ Bass Vst

Posted by: steve25 Mar 26 2009, 11:19 AM

I was borrowing a bass to record with as i don't have one of my own but unfortunatly they need it back which is of course fine because it is theres. At the moment i can't really afford to buy a bass of my own and the ability to record with it so does anyone know of any good free or cheap bass VSTs? Cheers

Well for a cheapish one, (49 Euro's), I reccommend http://www.bornemark.se/bb/index.htm though I've heard some reports that it does not work with Windows Vista.

trilogy ist probably the best vst bass instrument, but it is not free. I used this plugin(freeware):

The sound is nothing outstanding, but combined with some eq and bassexpanders quite qood.

That's my recomendation too. And yes, I've read somewhere (on their FAQ maybe) that it doesn't work with Vista.
But for the price, it's great. Either do your MIDI editing yourself or have it play by itself, just feet it tones or full chords from your keyboard if you have one.

I have a MIDI keyboard so i'd most likely play it smile.gif. But i use Vista Ultimate so it's pretty much out of the question unless a patch has/is being released. As for Trilogy, i've heard great things but it's quite expensive isn't it?

There is also Steinberg Virtual Bassist OEM version on 1CD that costs 35$. I think it's a great deal. Sound of VB is pretty good and usable straight from the box. It's no match for higher priced VSTs like Trilogy, but it is a great way to do some pilot projects. It can be used in ReWire mode in Nuendo/Cubase, and as a separate application. It has premade grooves, covering lots of styles, groove editor, but you can also control the sound from MIDI keyboard, or MIDI tracks. Definitely check it out. The OEM version is very similar to the real package (which is around 200$).

If you have money, get Trilogy.
It sounds very real!
