Hey guys, I'm Josh. I finally purchased a guitar last weekend and I just can't put it down! Although my heart was a bit broken when I realized just how hard this is, I've decided that I don't want to stop until I can shred like all my heavy metal idols.

I've always wanted to play guitar but for some reason I just never got into. Now that I'm a college graduate I don't really have anything to do besides go to work (I'm a software developer) and play video games. I started playing Guitar Hero on PS2 and now that I've beaten both 1 and 2 on expert level I had this intense urge to pick up the real thing.

I had been reading a lot of free tutorials online and deciding whether or not to pay $70 a month for local in-person lessons. Luckily I stumbled across one of the Masterclass ads (tapping) and it was so much fun and so helpful that I knew I had to come sign up.

Thanks for setting up this site Kris. You rock!

welcome josh!!!

don't get discouraged at how difficult it may be or how long it will take to learn, you will get there and it will take tons of practice but you need to make it fun and thats where kris and the guys excel...

at least you're starting out right!!! i spent too many years doing all the wrong things and the first few weeks here at gmc i've been spending the majority of my time correcting these. i'm finally getting to take it to the next level and learn my way around the fret board.

and since you're starting fresh i suggest you check out the theory board... when you have an understanding of the way notes work and sound it'll be that much easier to find out where to go next when you're playing an insane lick... scales will become second nature to you!

keep on rockin! \m/ cool.gif \m/

btw - get yourself a metronome and definitely learn how to use it... it will be one of the biggest tools to developing your speed!

Thanks for the tips. I plan to download that freeware metronome program once I get home.

I can't wait until my Line6 Spider3 ships out. Hopefully Guitar Center gets enough of them in next week. For now I'm jamming on a 10 watt practice amp from Target and its fun but man does it sound nasty.

when you get a chance get a cheap 30 dollar little metronome... it's tons better to have one right at your hands but the downloadable ones work also.

the spider III's are awesome... what you get for the price is phenomenal! i own the line 6 spider II 112 and i love it.
