Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Metallica For Beginners by Gabriel Leopardi

Take 2: Thanks for the feedback on my last take! I've been practicing this all week with your comments in mind. Other than playing the wrong opening notes (which was really silly) I think my biggest problem was nerves with recording. I streamlined my takes so I wouldn't have to click around a bunch of times and it made it easier to start over. After a lot of time in front of the camera I started to loosen up and I think this recording turned out much better.

Hey there buddy!

I think this one is definitely better and if you ask me, you did well on the rhythm part - you have good timing, definition and maybe playing it more in front of the camera, as you did now, will bring in a bit more tightness. When you are palm muting there are moments when you are not as dead on and tight as possible smile.gif But that's something which will come with more practice of course!

Now, coming down to the part whichreally needs more focus - the ending solo - please focus on the following details:

- reaching the correct pitches when bending
- executing a wider and more rounder vibrato
- playing all the phrases correctly - at 01:13, the little lick there sounds a bit out of timing and without definition

That being said, try to play the solo alongside the original recording and maybe even record like that, so that you can have a means of comparison. It will help a lot in spotting the differences wink.gif Then you can correct and record over the backing with more confidence!

Keep rocking!

Cosmin

This is much better.. the rhythm section sounds more accurate now.

As Cosmin said, the solo section offers some scope for improvements. I agree with his observations and will add that the opening notes are a little rushed. You move to the next note just a bit too early. I know there's only a lone clean guitar in the background but obviously you still need to be able to keep time even without any percussion or click so this is a good test for that.

Hi friend!! Great job with this one!

You really took the comments and worked on the things we marked! The rhythm section is much better now and it just have some details regarding that muting thing that Cosmin said and also some very little timing issues that will disappear focusing on it while practicing. By the way most of the rhythm section sounds exactly as the original lesson.

The solo is the next thing to improve now. It's has some problems with timing, bending and vibrato is weak. Here you have some lessons and exercises that could be a good complement to improve this solo:
