Hey guys, I was just wondering, what good VSTi instruments can you recommend for a musician trying to achieve a Dream Theatre type style of sound? So very synth-like and mechanical with still drums, bass and the all important guitar. Thanks!

here are some VSTi's that Jordan uses:

* MOTU MachFive
* MOTU MX4 Soft Synth
* Korg Legacy Collection
* Spectrasonics Omnisphere
* Spectrasonics Atmosphere
* Spectrasonics Trilogy
* Spectrasonics Stylus
* Native Instruments Komplete 2
* Native Instruments Absynth
* Native Instruments B4 Organ
* Native Instruments FM7
* Native Instruments Pro 53
* Synthogy Ivory

From this list I recommend Trilogy (bass), B4 (organ), Ivory (piano), Omnisphere (hybrid synth), Stylus (groove instrument).

If you want good drums, EZDrummer Drumkit from Hell is a good option, or you want something more pro, there's Metal Foundry pack that goes along with Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0. There's even metal MIDI pack played by pro drummers that you can use with both of these kits, and it sounds just awesome, lots of odd grooves as well, which is important if you're going for DT style.

I am usining EZ Drummer with the Drumkit form Hell, this gives you very nice drums. I am also using Trilogy since about 2 weeks and I really love it, and also B4 is very nice.

And like Ivan mentioned, Spectrasonics Omnisphere have been alot on the latest album.

For bass you should try Spectrasonics Trilian, awesome bass VST smile.gif
