Wanted to start it off with something ambient, so I reversed a clean guitar part and washed it out with reverb and delay; layering a piano and string part underneath. Here's what the original clean guitars at the beginning sound like. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3287032...rds%20Intro.mp3

Then because the melody is so simple and repeats itself a lot in the original song, I thought I'd try and work in a more interesting rhythm guitar part.

Picked up a 'Minor 7th Add2' chord from Mark Holcomb of Periphery, trying to incorporate a lot more of those bigger chords into my arrangements; definitely adds something that power chords can't.

Solo starts at 2:08 if that's all you wanna see - Mainly just pentatonic stuff; I wrote it with a bit of an asian feel at the start but once I recorded it wasn't really fitting in with the mix, so this is what's left over. Some sequences, arpeggios, regular stuff.

Hey that was an awesome cover! smile.gif

I really like the backing arrangement, very creative. Especially the interaction between bass and rhythm guitar at 1:19 section. Your playing is very inspiring and I like how you made this song "yours" yet made it even more epic sounding.

Thanks man, but I think I'm gonna have to be careful and not fall into the trap of doing the same thing every cover! I think 3 of my last 5 covers have had the same ambient -> metal thing going on. And the one i'm working on now has the exact same structure too. laugh.gif

As a side note, I was wondering where all the views were coming from, but apparently if you search for "Shake It Off" and "Taylor Swift Shake It Off", I'm the result right after the official tracks which is pretty cool.

That's a great job man! There's nice interplay between rhythm and melody. I'm a fan of T swizzle and you did a good job!

Thanks guys! I've always liked covering pop songs, with so much focus on the melody, it's very easy to convert it into any other style.

I'd love to cover "style" by tswiz. 5 years ago I went on a rap and hip hop/ r and b covers and it was so much fun. My wife would be listening to them and I'd take it and add angry metalish guitars to it. I ought to do it again.

Something that I have wanted to do but didn't develop the chops was to cover a faster paced rap song. The rhythm is the hardest thing. That could be very unique if practiced enough.

Hey mate! It's great to see this one finally online! It has been really inspiring to see how you this arrangement evolved thanks to your shares at the mentoring program. The final work is top level. Congratulations friend!! smile.gif

Yeah, there's a lot of cool rhythm in rap and hip hop. I remember seeing someone do a drum cover of Rap God by Eminem where instead of just playing the beat to the song, he mimicked the rhythm of all the vocals; crazy stuff.
