Hi there

Damn I’m too late..... This collab is beautiful.
The result is very professional, I loved listening to it.
It’s hard to recognize the players...

Bravo.

Yes we missed you in this one, I am sure you would have recorded an amazing take! 👊

OUR TRACK IS LIVE 🤩 check it out in the radio player!

I must admit this collab fills me with a super warm feeling inside. It's such a good representation of our community:

We start with a basic idea to jam, and we end up with a unique, fresh- and killer sounding track. Can't believe we did it!!

Kris, that was a really great video with awesome advices!!! smile.gif Your explanations are always so cool that even a person who have nothing in common with music, will go to a store to buy a guitar and learn to play. biggrin.gif
Seriously, you have that gift to make things seem much easier than they are and I always loved this thing. It spreads an extra power for every person which is in the learning process. smile.gif

BTW...related to shredding and gain.
As you know I always use a tiny amount of gain in my tone and every time when I decide to use a very long fast run in my takes, it require a lot of work to make it sound good. So...I have a trick which always works great for me. smile.gif
Beside the normal approach for practicing a run, I also make an additional practice with the guitar unplugged. It's a really good way to verify myself how much I control the sound for each note picked and also the strength that I use for every accent.
If my ears are happy with the result unplugged, I have no doubt that will sounds really great with the guitar plugged. smile.gif

Awesome to hear Monica! 🤩

Playing unplugged is a great suggestion, I will mention it int he future.

Actually that's how I got started with my current (dry!) tone. I got totally sick of all the effects I was constantly adding, so for 6 months I only practiced unplugged.

Nice! We were talking about this in a few other threads the last few days. Actually exactly this approach smile.gif

Some of it here: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...st&p=792913
And here: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...st&p=793063

Those are every inspiring threads-

I was also inspired by the idea you had to analyse the melodic aspect of different shredders. Though I am not sure I would be able to do such an analysis myself.

Very cool! As BEN said, this was talked about and it looks like implemented perfectly!

WOW! Back with a vengeance mate 😵

I already know what you would say about my right hand.

All the habits I’ve been working for months is wiped out with extreme speed. mad.gif
I saw the video of RUSTIX (Better REC Gmcer), I don’t think I’ll ever be able to be so relaxed but I dream of it.

Yes if results were not so good, I would definitely remind you about what we have said previously about relaxing the right hand and allow for more thumb joint movement (as you said GMCer Rustix does this really well here).

However, you are now killing it, and it seems you are on a very good path.

Sure you can clean it up a little more - for example at 00:09 we can hear a little noise which might be because you accidentally touched a string when doing string traverse. That kind of stuff gets easier with more thumb joint movement.

Also I know both Marcus and Yngwie rely one economy picking. However, with strict alternate picking - string traverse/crossing can get very tricky (especially with three-note-per-string patterns). Again in these situations it's good to have an agile right hand hand and some think the thumb joint movement is key to this.

You get a well deserved 9 from me, keep blowing us away ❤️

Thanks for sharing the video, Kris. Unfortunately I couldn't watch. I can't remember what I was doing though. laugh.gif

Do you have plans about doing more live streams or making it a feature somehow on the site again? Or more scheduled on Facebook etc? Just curious if you have any ideas or plans biggrin.gif

Right now I am mostly exploring new ideas.

I find that the quality of these streams is totally dependent on my mood 😅so I need to find routines that work for me.

Yeah, it kinda popped up in one instance when I was playing the video again, but then reloading the page it disappeared.

[attachment=52824:Krispic.png]

This was just running through OBS. I have a bit of a weird setup, as I like a mix between physical and software options. Basically I just run all computer sound through one audio interface, it goes from a headphones out into the line in on my motherboard. It collects all sound from my computer incl. Reaper, YouTube and such. My other audio interface has my mic and is only available via OBS and some virtual audio cable. I couldn't get this to work with only one audio interface (at least the one I had wouldn't do it), as it didn't allow enough inputs to run to OBS in the way I wanted. It didn't give me a lot of options or control. With these two audio interfaces I have physical knobs in front of me (on the two interfaces) to control mic level (for speaking or muting) as well as levels of the backing track, guitar and so on.

I'm not sure I explain it that well, as it's a result of a lot of fiddling and trying to realize some ideas I had. I've had it disconnected completely before and can set it up again, so that's not an issue, but I'm not sure about the actual terms for these things are called.

I run Reaper with Neural DSP, but not really much else. If I wanted to I could hook up my mic to Reaper and do it all via one audio interface probably with better mic quality (noise reduction, compression etc., though I think I can do that via OBS too), but since I do some casual voice chatting on Discord and other places I don't want to have to open Reaper every time. At the moment I do have to open OBS to run virtual audio cable, virtual camera and some other stuff on Discord, but that's alright, as we often use video chats and it allows me to be a bit creative there as well. It also allows me to just do relatively quick recordings or streams with OBS. The video below is just recorded from a stream on Facebook using OBS. Levels weren't set up all that great, so you can't really hear what I say at the beginning, but it was mostly just me talking to myself.

I have also previous mic'ed up my amp while doing live streams, but that is a bit more tricky, as it means a mic for the cab that should not pick up my voice when I speak into the mic at my computer. It was a bit tricky and a lot of fiddling with levels. It turned out okay, but not perfect. VST plugins for guitar sound are much easier to deal with, as if I use headphones there is no sound from the speakers going back into the mic.

Also, sidenote, I used to stream gaming on Twitch quite a bit with Streamlabs OBS, and I am also able to do multi-camera stream with different scenes similar to what you might see Gab do or music streamers on Twitch. I.e. two or three camera angles as well as screen capture, and of course various screen like BRB, a bigger face cam for talking, Intro scene and ending scene so on. I don't stream on Twitch anymore, but it taught me a bit about these things. I do think about going back to streaming, but I can't really find the right "way" to do it for me, where it doesn't become a stressful burden. Still toying with the idea about music streams on there and maybe also some gaming again.

If you have any other specific questions feel free to ask smile.gif

EDIT: Also just want to point out that I don't think there are really any FAST short cuts to learning to stream. Sure you can buy the equipment, programs, webcam and all these things, but in the end you still gotta learn how to use the programs. I've been asked to help before in settings these things up, and while I don't really mind it, it can also be very personal how one's setup should be and what you wish to use it for. And sometimes experimenting to get nearer your goal is just as valuable and teaches you production. Not talking about you here, by the way. It's similar to when my friend asked me to mix and produce a song, but the recording was nothing but noise, as he had not understood levels, gain staging and generally how to record, but he didn't seem to have watched any tutorials or read about it, but just asked me for the short cuts, i.e. "show me how to do it, then I'll remember", but the truth is that I've spent thousand of hours with settings these things up and I can't "teach" the use of it in 30 minutes - the setup itself can be quickly run through, but how to actually do things and be comfortable with them is a different matter that comes from (lots and lots of) experience, watching, reading and learning from tutorials in my opinion smile.gif There are very few actual short cuts in life.

Sorry, this was not related to you, just a bit of a ramble.

EDIT 2: Added a picture to my reply to Kris.
EDIT 3: Just checked. A quick edit changes the video to the one with likes and comments.

So when you edit the video you get to see likes and comments? I don't see any now.

Looks like we can actually comment directly to Facebook as well. Not sure, now that option disappeared, but it showed something about comments and likes.

Very cool! The embed should have support for "Include full post" though I am not sure where to look for it. But maybe that's what you spotted.

Hi guys, it looks like I figured out how to do Facebook embeds:

1) Choose "Facebook vid" in the "Insert Special Item" menu

Attached Image

2) grab the "copy link" at facebook

Hopefully this will be useful to share some cool new content here!

I've tried a few other guitar lesson website throughout the years, but I've always stuck with GMC. I like the forum the most. That's not to say the lessons aren't great of course. But lessons on guitar websites are lessons on guitar websites. Some are good and teach you a lot and some don't apply to us that well. But I've seen quite a few sites that don't have a forum like GMC does, or at least not in the same (old fashioned) way, and this is honestly the reason I stay with GMC. The community and the setup with the forum works for me. If it was all comment sections beneath lessons (like on some sites) without cmmunity activities in a forum, it wouldn't feel the same. The structure of GMC allows for a great community - in a day and age where things have shifted a bit more to Facebook-like structures or comment-sections. I'm all for changes and new things, but this structure here definitely works for me, so I'd always say "add to it", rather than removing and trying something else/new cool.gif

Yes, the community is the heart and soul of any site/service. So if there isn't a forum, I guess it tells you what you need to know about the owners spiritual life 😅

I don't ever see us removing the forum and just relying on comment sections, however we do need to upgrade the forum software at some point!

QUOTE (Phil66 @ Oct 4 2021, 03:42 PM) *
I'm pretty much in the same camp as Ben, also I've just "discovered" the "courses" section in the lessons section, this imho is the way to go forward, there are plenty of lessons covering pretty much anything you want and I know as new players come along lessons will have to be added to accommodate their admirers but I think courses are the best way to help develop one's own style.

Keep up the good work Kris and all the staff smile.gif cool.gif

Agreed! Some people prefer to learn through courses/pathways, and we have many more planned!

QUOTE (PosterBoy @ Oct 4 2021, 03:43 PM) *
I agree Ben.
The community is a fantastic resource for knowledge, advice and comradery

A few months ago I also grabbed some Andy James stuff from his site and I noticed some files were corrupt etc and also that people had commented about that over a year before and they hadn't fixed the issue.

Kris is so much more responsive to technical issues

Thanks, I try my best ❤️ It should be said though that running a site like this (or Andy's for that matter) is much more complex than it might seem. And small companies can def struggle just fixing basic bugs/functionality (especially if it's a custom built site).

QUOTE (Todd Simpson @ Oct 4 2021, 10:47 PM) *
Have you considered changing tack and doing what many sites have done to evolve and start to use GOOGLE ADSENSE for revenue instead of charging admission? I know we have a NO ADS poilcy here. Given all of the rampant change in terms of business model on the web, the rise of "freemium" etc. Could this be the way that spikes our participation again and gets folks back in the forum? Free Admission/Accounts but ad supported?

Yes I have tried adsense in my early days running a site called freelicks.net .

I have toyed many times with the idea of letting guests register an account for some kind of forum access. I think it could give us a lot of interesting and new input!

However the current setup feels cleaner and has less security/maintenance implications.

Yeah Ben's take is extremely tasty and I am once again blown away by his versatility.

Also Tflava's melody must have been epic, cause it's constantly in my head. I cannot remember last time that happened in a guitar-only collab. Usually when this happens, the only way for me to stop humming the melody, its to start playing it myself. So you will likely hear me play his licks soon 😁
