I've only noticed Rick Graham doing this, check 2.03 to 2.05 in video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXkLokXsK28

Made 1-2 exercise's for myself, seems to require good amount of strength besides control. How would you approach working on this?

I made myself a similar but shorter riff compared to the solo (which is played muted h.o./p.o. on distortion) and also a longer chromatic passage that I work on clean setting (with bridge pickup, mine isn't very extreme highoutput). It really builds left hand strength so I'm going easy on this one biggrin.gif

I saw this video yesterday and I must say that his playing is amazing. It's shred but very funny to hear. That technique that you talk about sounds really good and I think it's not more difficult than just playing the hammering without palm muting. If you are able to play legato at that speed, you will be able to do it with palm muting.

sounds to me like you put on a dotted 8th delay while palm muting

Comparing his to my playing (lol! smile.gif ), the sound I get is more "plucked" than his. I mean he can get the notes pretty clear, not much pick or mute noise/pump.

Sure my h.o./p.o.'s aren't perfect but I guess its about muting very light specially at the higher strings which I'm not used to. It gets a bit easier with the neck pickup and some compression...

Again it really builds strength and seems summer wasn't very good on me being lazy...maybe I should start body building too biggrin.gif

Wow, this guy can play !

You can play your regular hammer on / pull off legato and just use your picking hand to rest on the string lightly, muting it. smile.gif

this is as close as I think it is, Total legato(it looks like he plucks each string change with finger)
But I would just start with a hammer on from nowhere on the E string , Eminor

Rick is insane player! Hard to give You some good advice...I'm afraid it depend of Rick's overall abilities. Anyway I think that in this particular technique it should not be a problem if You work on Your legato constantly.
